If you are going to be a player, you have to walk the walk. The U.S. must zip to the aid of others. Secondly, why do you wait for the government to fix all your problems. Homelessness is everywhere. You noticed the problem, fix it in your area and let the rest of the country fix theirs. Third, I have been about as destitute as an individual can get in this country. I have nearly starved to death, nearly froze to death, and been the object of dejection. People can fix their lives, even the homeless, when they want too. I now have a family that I support and plan their futures for. The government allows you the opportunity and ability to pull yourself up. Not every individual is suited to every environment. If your starving in New York, move to the heartland region where people will help you out of generosity.
P.S. Stop looking at disasters in other countries as helping another country out. WE'RE HELPING PEOPLE WHO DESPERATELY NEED IT. It's a humanitarian thing. Plus, when the waters flooded Louisiana, Mexico, France, England, and even many arabic countries came to help. Fidel Castro offered aid. Political policy and humanitarian endeavors should be separate.
A corporation shouldn't care if a competitor is floundering, but should care about the workers that will be out of work.

That is a good question.
My opinion is that the left-wing politicians care what other countries think of us. They flip out if a country has a bad attitude towards us so they send money to the countries.
And for some reason if the US doesn't make a huge contribution more than any other country we are tyrants and horrible people.
Its a lose lose situation

You have to understand that politicians are people too, and power and money is a very corrupting item. Also people that always seek power and money are not in their right mind set. As for our current Government, You can't always believe in what they tell you. Politic is a very cut throat business to be in, and they are more interested in watching their back then they in the people that they are suppose to represent. Also remember that people that give you money wants something in return and who really know what that can be. Another thing never believe that if you can become a politicians you will be able to change things, for the status quo will not allow you to do that. So sit back with the understanding that power equal a form of insanity and the best of us can be corrupted by it...............................

Better question - why is so much money spent on the military to grasp at power in other countries rather than spending it on social programs to improve the quality of life for Americans and people abroad? There is lots of money to go around. The problem is that there are some issues with respect to priority and importance.

Oh please ...
Haven't your realized that the politicians do not give a brown gooey mass about the public?
The owners of this country do not want to have anything to do with people like us. They don't care if you prosper, live below poverty line, shoot your partner, beat your kids or do drugs. We are not free in this country. We are ruled to the interest of the big corporations and they paymasters. The notion and image that we are free is constantly portrait to us but it is nothing but a lie in order to keep us calm and dormant. Do you think you are free because you can drive wherever you want? Is making vacations at the gulf of Mexico freedom indeed?
It is not.

The US government usually sends aid to foreign countries in order to promote and advance US national interests there. USA is not just trying to help foreigners out of the goodness of its heart. The US government has something to gain out of it politically and economically.
USA gets a lot of its oil from the middle east, and USA has a lot of national interests at stake there. That's why they are spending so much tax-payer money there.

good question; the United States government partially does it to win other favors from countries, such as favorable trade policies, maybe mining or drilling rights, locating a military base there, and so forth; the other reason is to 'buy' an ally for voting at summits or negotiations with other countries
