Life is too short to wait for that six years... do something that makes you happy! Okay, that might not pay the bills, but really, why not work at finding something that brings you peace? I mean, you could drop dead tomorrow, and then what? I don't know what happens when you die, but do you want to look back on your life with regret? Think about something that you've always wanted to do, and take steps towards that. Making a plan and taking steps to accomplish it always makes me feel more at peace with the direction my life is headed. Take baby steps, and don't let the big picture overwhelm you. Life is for living, please don't sit around and wait for it to happen.

Question, will you not get retirement if you leave now?
what I'm saying is, if you can leave, do it. Then go get a different job. My father's worked at his job an incredibly long time. He inherited a house and other money. He's been there long enough to retire. He hates his job. He could quit, but he doesn't because he's whipped by his gf. Meanwhile, he loves golf. He could work at a golf course or something.
Other than that: how did you make it this long? Perhaps you hate your job because you're not happy with your life. Figure out what's bothering you. Because work always sucks. It must not have been *that* bad if you stayed there this long.

As others have suggested, you could use drugs including alcohol to cope.
A more positive solution might be to take up a number of activities known to reduce stress such as exercise, meditation, or social involvement like church.
The best solution would be if you became a force for change at your work place. What can you do to make your work situation better not just for you, but for all the workers where you work.

I worked 5 years at a job I hated. I managed by living day to day. I tried to have something to look forward to when I came home, even just a particular TV show. I would also give myself something to look forward to on the weekends, such as a class or meeting with friends. Then I'd work day to day, week to week, and the time flew by. 6 years is not too long in the grand scheme of things, even though it can sound like forever when you're miserable.

I have an awesome idea. Make the best of it, how might you think? Make a joke of your job with out actually losing your job. Read the comics in the morning, and cut out the cartoon that best describes your attitude for that day. Then take the cut out cartoon and stick it up on your wall along with the date. You will be surprised at the end of your 6 years and you will be laughing all the way till the day you walk out with a great pension and a world of laziness.. Cartoons are there for our spirit to smile!

Just hang in there. Do your job and do it well; but perhaps take up an activity in your free time (like golf) that will distract you when you are not working. Take your vacation time and spend more time with your family. You never know, you may even miss working once you retire!

Think positive and about how you will be spending your retirement. Do you workout? If you don't take it up and relieve some of your stress. Do things to take your mind off of work. When you go to work just keep to yourself the best you can. God Bless you!
