disney artists went through a rigorous audition process before they got signed by the studio. i think it was mandatory that they all be multi-talented. disney auditions would usually call for kids that can dance, sing, act and what have you
and besides, it's good business sense for disney to just sign up their own roster of artists than get artists from outside who would probably cost them more in terms of talent fees. and so, it's just practical that they sign up people who are all-around, jack-of-all-trades kinds of artists

I wonder the same thing sometimes. So many Disney Channel actors become singers later. I could name so many. Just look at Vanessa Anne Hudgens. High School Musical only came out less than a year ago, and now she has her only single. I think Disney Channel is just trying to play to the strengths of their actors, and if they want to sing, then let them sing. It starts out as somebody just singing for the soundtrack of their show or their movie, but then when people like their music, they sing their own songs...
