It wont do much if at any. I used to run road races (5k, 10k) and wanted to run a half marathon. Injury held me up from the half marathon.
Crunches and situps to get your abdominals as strong as you can get them. Helps you be able to run longer without feeling cramps and fatigue in your abs. Also try different ways of exercising like riding a bicycle.

What really works fast for stamina building for me. Ride a bicycle a mile, run a mile, then ride a mile. Do it every other day.
Run a mile, ride a mile, run a mile. ---- this is excellent but painful ----- Do it 2days then 1 day off

You can use shorter distances and build up from there. You can switch it up until you find that perfectly painful method to get best results.

Short answer, no. Weight training will help build muscle. If you want to build stamina for jogging and running, you need to do that kind of training, i.e. treadmill, rower, elliptical trainer, stair-master, etc. Vary your routines on each, a stead pace for 20mins, 30 mins, whatever the training facility will allow, and sprints - going flat out for a shorter period of time.

I believe an upper body workout helps with running, because everything is connected. If you run a lot without working on your upper body at least a little, you seem to lose all your muscle from the waist up and end up looking ridiculously skinny.

Yes- upper body strength increases mobility in arms for extension. It even helps perk up the chest muscles a little.

not really, all it will do is improve your muscle mass... the only way to increase stamina is to jog/run often... practice makes perfect.

Your arms pump while running so common sense would dictate that the better shape they're in, the less energy they would use while pumping... more efficient.
