I realize that a baby at this age should only be getting formula or breastmilk, but she weighs 14 lbs, she was 10 lbs at birth. So she should be eating at least 26 oz of formula a day. I am lucky if she eats 18 oz. She has terrible colic, we have tried everything. From Gripe Water, to Homeopathic Colic drops and tablets, to oval. She refuses to eat formula in the afternoon and evening, about 9 hours. The doc told me to give her pedialyte during these times. She sucks it back amazingly. I have never seen her so interested in eating. So my question is, is it then okay to feed the baby diluted pear juice instead of pedialyte?

Personally, I'd avoid giving either. The Pedialyte is probably better for her than the pear juice.
Maybe she is just distracted and that's why she's not eating at certain times of day? Breastfed babies do that so I don't see why a bottlefed baby couldn't do the same. Try removing distractions to get her to eat. Turn off the TV, sit in a dimly lit room, keep things quiet, dark and still and see if she'll focus more on eating her formula then.
Have you talked to the doctor about her colic? Maybe she needs a different formula? She really needs breastmilk or formula to grow, not juice of pedialyte. I'd be talking to the doctor about ways to get her to eat the formula and maybe even getting a second opinion if this is all your doc will tell you.
How is she growing? Is she having plenty of wet and dirty diapers?

I do not think it is a good idea to do pear juice until she is 5 months odl or older... simply because it can cause serious gas in some babies...
I know how you feel with the colic... my youngest had it. Shewas also the one who could not eat pears or drink pera juice because it made things way worse.
I don't know how old your baby is.. but maybe you can start adding some cereal to her formula, only like a tsp at a time to see how she does.
Does she ever throw up her formula alot ? She may have some acid reflux and the cereal would help hold it down and it would also help her when she is hungry.
Again you didn't say how old she was so I am guessing she is young.

Pear juice will have the sugar content of pedialyte, but I don't think it will have the salt?
Pedialyte is usually used to keep a sick baby (vomiting and diarrhea) from getting dehydrated.
Here is a recipe for homemade pedialyte:
This will not aggravate sick little tummies.
2 quarts boiled water
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 Tbsp white Caro syrup
Boil 20 minutes. Cool. Keep in Refrigerator.
You can also substitute 7 Tbsp sugar instead of the corn syrup.
Here are a few other pedialyte substitutes:

Medicinal doctors have very little nutrition classes in med school, so they are not very helpful in understanding alternative nutrition. Western medicine will have you think milk is the best for a baby, BUT colic is a natural allergic reaction to milk. Try goat's milk, if the baby is still suffering from colic, try soy milk based formula, and the colic should get better. As for incorporating juice, yes juice is ok for babies as long as it is diluted. Once you have removed the source of the allergic reaction I think you will notice an difinite increase in your baby's appetite and overall health.

It depends on how old your child is....I would say it would be okay around the 4 month mark, but even then only once a day. Also, have you tried different formulas?? She may be allergic to cows milk.

Follow your baby's doctors instructions. If you need to talk with the doctor again....call them. If you are breast feeding, be careful what you eat. What you eat becomes your baby's food. Feed less amounts but more often may help. She may be 14 lbs. but she has a little tummy!

The pear juice might make her have more bowel movements. Have you tried Soy? It worked for me and my fussy one.

I dunno, but pears and pear juice gave my daughter the runs. Doc said it can be almost a laxative to the kids. So just be weary of her diapers!
