In short, yes. Lie detector tests monitor physiological changes, such as blood pressure, heart rate, respiration and skin conductivity while a series of questions are being asked, in an attempt to detect lies.
If someone can control these physiological changes, then, in theory, they should be able to beat a lie detector test.
Also, if someone really truly believes that they did not do what they are accused of (possibly because of a mental condition), then their physiological characteristics may not change.

Lie detectors measure physiological responses to questions. These include sweating and heart rate for example. Any method of 'beating' a lie detector test will include a countermeasure to prohibit these natural functions, such as antipersirant, or betablockers. Polygraphs are notoriously difficult to interpret, and this is why their evidence is seldom admissable in court.
The page below provides a more in-depth account.

Have the suspect take a "magnetic resonance" test and the
"spin echo" will detect altered behaviour in brain waves when
the suspect lies. This system is being widely tested at present
and should be adopted wherever the law permits.
Note: this method is not invasive. I answer this question from
the point of view if there is any system that can beat the normal
lie detection method. Nobody can fool a "magnetic resonance"
test system.

A true sociopath can cheat the lie detector. Thats because he believes his own story and has reworked the whole charade into a different thing. It takes a sort of madness to have that amount of alienation from the truth.

i believe it is possible to beat a lie detector test but not just because you want to beat it when you know you are telling lies. I think the person lying is so wrapped up in their lies that they believe their own lies. they think that what they are saying is true to the point that they want it to be true and no longer accept that it is a lie . They lose touch with reality and believe in the fantasy.

Here we go love, this is the honest truth...
Most people could beat a lie detector in a 100 m sprint.

Yes they can. Some people can control their emotions in such a way as to fool the detector.

I heard there are ways but lately the technology has been better. When I was much younger, you needed to inflict pain as you answered a question. Like a pin or needle digging into your thigh.
