Kids who shoplift are trying to seek attention from their parents... It would be great if their parents could spend more time with their kids and try to understand them more...

It could be prevented by bringing them up right... knowing between wrong and right, knowing the kids's friends and not letting them hang out as much with questionables... and then if it has happened, the shoplifting, the kid must be held accountable, either to the store owner or the police or whatever. It sounds harsh but I think that would be the only way.

Your kids are probably doing it due to peer pressure. Why don't you teach them a lesson. Make sure you know that they have done it and then either get fake uniforms of a Police officer or get real ones and explain your reasoning before conducting the trick. Then have them come to the house to pick up your child for suspected shoplifting, they will be scared ****.

Trust me!

If they've been brought up learning rules and respect and are generally trustworthy, they will not shoplift. If they are old enough, have them get a job working in retail. That will deter them as well.

It's the parents' obligation to demonstrate examples to their kids while they're little... how to put in the cart what they intend to purchase, pay for what they've collected and go to the exit worry-free.
