ok here is the deal...i purchased a 89' jeep wrangler and it runs great...until now, i am having a issue getting it into gear when the vehicle is stopped at a light or stop sign. When i am rolling i have no issues as it shifts smooth into every gear...is it just a bas slave cylinder or clutch.

Thanks in advance...

Is your Jeep lifted? Often times, people drop the transfer case when they lift the 89 Jeep Wrangler. When you lower the transfer case, your shifter has problems clearing the floorboard. You have a few choices: 1. Remove the lift kit 2. remove the center console box 3. notch the sheet metal around the shifter, especially around the first gear position.

Two things. First and cheapest check the fluid level in the transmission. They're hard to shift if not full. Second save up some money for a new clutch you'll need it. An 89 is an internal slave so even if it were just the slave by the time you get to it you're 6 pressure plate bolts away from the clutch and might as well do both.
