I don't know how old you are. Otherwise ask someone old enough who has experienced 1974 to 1977 - what happened during civil emergency in India. It was a small token of dictatorship in the sham of democracy and became free for some.

If we mature ourselves and each one of us "dedicate selflessly" for atleast "one good deed per day" for the cause of nation, irrespective of the fact whether others are doing so or not, we can still achieve a lot without dictatorship.

What do you think happened in Emergency ? Initially, there will be a lot of activity. But, slowly the momentum will be lost. The bureaucracy will see which way the wind blows and will interested in pleasing the boss than doing things independently,as per law. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Quick decisions will not be guarantee for good decisions. No doubt in democracy, there is a lot of red tap ism. It requires a thorough overhaul of the official machinery. But, this red tap ism cannot be wished away even a dictatorship. It is a mistake to say that the red tap ism is due to democracy. Think of the swift and prompt actions the British government are taking in wake of the terrorist attacks recently. Remember, they fought and won two world wars, remaining steadfast with democracy.

Stop building castles in air. Democracy has taken deep roots here in India. A country of more than one billion people needs steady progress with large gestation times for projects. Tinpot dictator ship/ ideas of 2 minute noodles can not work here.
