I have an ipod mini -I have no idea what gen it is. It plays some songs and skips right over others -sometimes skipping up to 10 or 15 songs. It keeps playing the same songs over and over again but its not on repeat or even shuffle. I have reset it countless times but its not helping. Its like it only plays the songs it wants to play. Any ideas?

This is a great question. Your iPod won't play certain songs because those songs are ripped as WMA files instead of MP3 files. WMA is the Microsoft equivalent of MP3. Apple doesn't like Microsoft so their players won't play Microsoft files (sounds childish but true). This is also why if you burn the songs to a CD then re-rip the disc as MP3s, the songs will play. A good way to check if this is the problem is to look at the actual file in your library folder. A song file that is titled for example "britney spears - hit me baby one more time.mp3" will play on an iPod, but a file titled "britney spears - hit me baby one more time.wma" will not play. The easiest way for you to fix this would be to do what the other answer suggested and burn the songs that won't play to CD, then re-rip as MP3s.

Are you sure those skipped songs are playable files? Maybe they're damaged or corrupted. Try selecting them and playing them on the iPod, then if that works, try playing them on your computer to check them.

Otherwise, I'd call Apple. I-Pods have warranties. Here's a link.

Burn those songs on to a CD and then delete them from your Library then replce them from the CD. It should then play. This worked for me but I have no idea why

That's why I use MD players. My friends say, "Oh that's ancient" but I could replace mine for about 80. Mine fell off the J train(a train above ground for non-NYC people) and shattered. All I lose is 80 bucks and maybe a disc.

It probably had too much sun exposure. Try Creative Zen from Walmart. It's AWESOME!
