I had a friend install a radio in my car. She hook it up so that the radio stayed on even with the car off. My clock was always on and I was also able to charge my cell phone with the car being off. I couldn't do any of this before she install the new radio. She said she hook it up to the batter. Well, when I went to start my car1 day after installation the car wouldn't start. I think the way she hook it up weakened the battery. Please tell me if any of you have ever heard of hooking a radio up to directly to the battery. Why would you want to play a raido with the car off? What if I were to forget to turn radio off?

Car accessories should never be hooked directly to the battery because it will drain the battery. Your friend obviously didn't know how to install the radio properly. I suggest you take your car to someone who knows how to fix this.

sounds like way to many items running off of your battery. I would suggest changing the radio from a direct connection to a connection that is powered when the key is on or in tha accessory position. As far as charging the cell phone goes that can be done with the adapter that came with the phone buy if it is left plugged in even when it is not charging, it still is using power from the battery. So unplug the charger, have the radio power connection changed , have your battery recharged and carry on.

Your friend hooked the radio up to the battery, so that when the car is off, the radio is sucking the battery dry! Tell her to fix it or take it somewhere to get fixed. It is just going to keep killing your battery!

No this isn't a very good idea, along with discharging the battery! It could very well cause a fire! No fuses, some newer cars have -Mini-circuit breakers> Please switch back where you hook up HOT wire to Ignition source, (key switch) and also splice in a in-wire fuse. This way you will reduce yours chances of having any electrcal fires

Your friend set it up so the battery was powering all the controls and devices constantly, which slowly drained the battery. It's like leaving the lights on overnight. Tell your friend to set it up to where stuff only works when the key is in.

You need a non-switched power source for the memory and a switched source for the radio itself.

this shouldn't run your battery down. i wire mine straight to the battery with and inline fuse. also wire it directly to the fuse panel. she has the accessory light on the radio which is the yellow wire , has it wired straight to the battery that is wrong she needs to wire it to the fuse panel. simple mistake , simple to fix. hope this helps you.

There are 2 power wires -- one that has "switched" power and one having "always" power. She has hooked the "switched" power wire to a wire that is always powered up.
