I believe your mentor was misinformed when he told you it would be difficult for you to improve your vocabulary after age 22. You can improve your vocabulary at any age as long as you do not have any physical or mental disability preventing it. I think he was trying to tell you that most people do not learn as many words when the are 22 and older due to the lack of learning environment. Most people graduate from college at that age and when you leave school, people are not exposed to environments where they are exposed to new words. I would recommend reading the newspaper and reading books of any kind. I learned 15 new words reading a book last month. I also play scrabble and you can build your vocalary that way. I hope you don't think you are not going to learn more words, because your only limitation is you. If you choose not to learn, you won't. If you actively seek knowledge, you will learn.

Don't let anybody discourage you.

Why would it be hard to improve your vocabulary after 22?

My advice is to read a lot, you can pick up a lot of new words that way. I do this, and use the words I learn. If I dont know what a word means, I look it up in the dictionary. I'm 34, and don't see my vocabulary as unable to be improved until I'm dead.

It's very simple to improve ones vocabulary. You can do this by reading several books which will not only give us knowledge but also improve our language. You can treat your mind by doing exercises or yo gas. In this competitive world, everybody is very glued in their chores & therefore it's neccesary for one to spend time to relax their mind. I would suggest this following site :www.vocabulary.co.in. I hope that you would be acquainted with ocean of knowledge & mail me so that I would come to know whether the mentor was right or wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

unless you ahve had some kind of brain damage.. or unles syou ahve not been exposed to language for 8 years, i don't think there is any cause fro concern when it comes to you improving your vocabulary!
its true that you can lose your ability to learn if not exposed to elements over a LONG period of time... but that doens't seem to be the case with oyu.... so expand your mind, read lots of books, and if it a problem wiht pronuciation that you have a problem.. try to see a speech specialist ..

even as i became little we had the soundtrack to "Jesus Christ movie star" (the version with the brown cover, featuring Ian Gillan of Deep pink) and Tim Rice's properly-articulated libretto led to this youthful listener to study numerous new (to his ears)words and, exceptionally, idioms. The lines of many different musicals and pre-rock song 'criteria' wafted through the living house each so frequently. To immediately I have a lot appreciation for a properly-crafted lyric or smart verse. some words that come to ideas are: omniscient picaresque
