I like 'Harrison' but think it sounds a bit American (not that there's anything wrong with that - I'm just not American and would prefer a proper 'old' English name.

Any ideas?

"Harrison" is nice, unusual and distinctive. A lot of people other than American have names like this now. Is this after "Harrison Ford" ? Or because Harrison is a sur-name in the family?

I think it is a cool idea to call your child a name like this especially if it has associations with a family name.

The important thing is to choose a name you really like, which goes well with the sur-name, and won't give your child too hard a time at school.

I once met a boy named "Russell" whose sur-name was "Sprout" - now that's just cruel.

But "Harrison" isn't likely to cause problems like that.

I like the name "Sky" or "Blue" but some people would find these names a bit fanciful for a boy.

My son is called "Josh" which was much more unusual when he was born, 18 years ago, and now is quite common. I still love the name though.

Really, it is all down to personal choice. Good luck! I do think names are very important.

My Grandad's middle name was "Royden"

Maybe you could look at a list of Royalty or American Presidents (OK so you say you don't want an "American" name but they're not all called Fitzgerald or Lyndon Baines!)

I'd rule out any "Pop star" names though - they might be unusual but think how the boy will feel in years to come!

There is a fashion in Scotland to call boys after geographical features, islands etc so maybe so could take your ideas from that.

Thank you, this answer has made me a level 4
