Dictatorship means that some body has usurped power from some one having the authority to govern, as per law. Dictatorship is thrust on a country, by a a person who arrogate to himself, on the basis of power. This has not happened in the free India. There is no such thing as "adopting" dictatorship. Indeed there is a provision in the Indian Constitution, for the prevailing government to suspend the Constitution, in national emergency. It is a constitutional dictatorship. That also is possible under certain conditions. Hence, adopting dictatorship is a misnomer.
If you are disillusioned with democracy, the remedy does lie in choosing dictatorship. We need to strengthen our democracy. Democracy is strengthened where the people are more aware and participative. Education as well as the willingness of the educated to face up to the challenge are the mantras for the success of democracy. However imperfect it is, democracy is the best.

It is very difficult for a country like India to be under 1 Dictator. We can dream about the country getting better under dictatorship. But ask the people who are/were ruled by dictators ? You'll definitely settle with Democracy.
But understand, We are the people who make up this democracy, It is our failure to exercise democracy the country is failing. Support initiatives like RTI. We'll be better.
Let us hope for a better India.

Of course, Democracy is always preferable to a dictatorship... but the minds of the people must be Democratic as well...
For instance, if the people have grown accustomed to having all of their decisions made for them and they don't know how beautiful freedom can be - they will use their democratic vote to re-elect a dictator... They develop a fear of becoming too liberal and soon the country goes right back to where it was...
I know about other countries in the Middle East but how long has India been democratic? It hasn't always been, right?

Imagine putting the reigns of one billion Indians in the hand of one man or woman. History has witnessed the cruel display of this power, Hitler, Mussolini were great and clever men but power corrupted their head and led to their downfall and left their countries in utter ruin.
Democracy ensures that the views and ideas of one mind does not effect or affect others, it ensures that decions are taken on the basis of majority and not individual benefit.
India has progressed in leaps and bounds in the last decade and continues to forge ahead at an awesome pace. This is because our very first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had the vision of a sovereign and democratic India.
Although democracy may not be the perfect solution it is a 'GOVT OF THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE AND BY THE PEOPLE' and the best one available.

What a stupid and retarded question. For one thing India should continue with democracy because the United States is backing it. Not to mention its rival "China", wants India to fail because India is huge competition for China in the years to come. Since India is a fairly young country, it is growing at a more faster pace than China. Not to mention the United States and India have become huge allies, which means that China will have a economic counterweight in Asia now. Thank God for India. Because now the U.S. doesn't have to rely on China for most of its goods. Which means China will not become as powerful as they all projected in the coming years. Since the United States has the U.K. - Japan - and now India as major allies, China will not beable to become a major superpower and the United States will remain the most powerful.
