Always choose democracy. In democracy, there is always hope for change. In dictatorship, there is no guarantee for your head. There is always a Damocles sword hanging on your head. It would be really suffocating to live in a dictatorship. You cannot think of Yahoo answers in dictatorship. The funny thing about democracy, it offers opportunities to its critics to criticise it. The right to criticise is the hall mark of democracy which is totally absent in dictatorship. We are too much used to democracy to realise how it would be in its absence.

continue as a Democracy from an American point of view. The big reason American and other western capital keeps getting pumped into India is because India is the biggest democracy in the world. Being a deomcracy has truly changed India for the best internally also. What will eventually help India surpase China as the dominate power in Asia is the fact that its political system allows for much more creativity than China's does. It is how Japan can keep itself ahead of the Chinese behemoth so far.

The word "adopt" is not fit in your question, dictatorship can be achieved only forcefully .
but to answer to your query democracy is doing not so bad ,it all about people which provoke you to ask such question .
So Democracy is fine with large scope of betterment
