Who "told" you that she has low zinc??
I would question the diagnosis -- how was this done?
You said the gp couldn't find anything - so who "found" the low zinc??

Hi Marggy. I would like to suggest that your doctor determine the CAUSE of your child's low zinc levels. Something is WRONG! Stomach pains are NOT normal.

My first 'guess' is the possibility that your child has Celiac Disease. This is an autoimmune disease that damages the lining of the small intestine. It can cause stomach complaints as well as vitamin and mineral malabsorption.

Celiac Disease is very common (ocurring in 1 person in 100) but is rarely diagnosed (only about 3% of people in the U.S. with this disorder are ever properly diagnosed). It is caused by an allergic reaction to the proteins in wheat, rye and barley called glutens/gliadins.

The reason it may not be diagnosed by most medical doctors is simple; there is no medical/drug treatment. The only treatment is total avoidance of wheat/rye/barley and added glutens in foods (processed foods).

With your child's problems, your doctor should Routinely have tested for this disorder, but probably did not. Demand it! Your doctor may not be knowledgeable about this common condition, so you may need to 'educate' him/her.

Go to the website of the medical journal "Gastroenterology" (gastrojournal.org/issues). Their April 2005 supplement contained a complete set of review papers on Celiac Disease. You may need to provide a few of these to your doctor. You may also need to read them to educate yourself and to be able to help your child.

Celiac disease is not the only possible cause of your child's condition, but it may be the most likely. If your current doctor cannot help, find one that can.

I hope this is helpful. Best wishes and good luck.

Does she not have an afternoon sleep? I would put her to sleep on some soft pink or light blue sheets or blanket. This will help her to relax and sleep. You might like to try some 'Goodnight', drunk at room temperature it will make her quite sleepy. 'Goodnight' is an all natural product that can be purchased from any goo healthfood store.

I have a diploma in Colour Therapy, does she wear orange or red clothing, as these will make her more active with too much energy.

Whole grains, wheat germ, nuts and seeds are good sources. Centrum childrens vitamins have some zinc.

Does she have bad dreams? When I was three and four I used to have really bad nightmares and I had insomnia because I was scared to go to sleep. Of course I don't know what you could possibly do about that.
