good question. the british empire, divided countries, and laid down its own boundaries, which are the main cause of many of the wars still goin on today, we were also slavers, and killed people with only sand to defend themselves.

i would have to say the empire did the most damage, over a longer time, and more globally, and i blive, it might be responsible, due to boundaries... of a nuclear event to come..

dorry everyone else on here didnt consider your question, and acted like derranged child..

Both were built on cruelty , slavery and murder. The reich appears more shocking as it happened in a more systematic way and over a much shorter time scale. The images of of liberated concentrating camps are still quiet shocking even today. Camps like this are actually a British invention , first used during the Boer war.
The British empire and Nazi Germany shared one great ideology, the both believed they were superior races and it was there duty to rule the world. It doesn't really matter if it happened in 1940 or 1840 both were a sin against mankind and in 200 years history will judge both era's with equal contempt.

Let's face it. The Sun Never set on the British Empire for hundreds of years and this Gave us a long time and a lot of space to do bad things in, But I don't think we can ever look as bad as the third Reich managed in just 10 years.

The 3rd Reich tended to murder a large proportion of their subject peoples. The British Empire made their subject peoples play games allowing them to kick the imperialists in the shins or throw heavy balls at them. Which is worse depends on your point of view (which would you prefer, cricket or the gas chamber?)

The British Empire was not perfect, but it did not go in for wholesale slaughter of men, women and children because of their religious beliefs. Hitler was a mad man, and his third reich the most evil government in history.

They both tried to do the same thing.
The 3rd Reich was just more aggressive. It would have taken the English ( in the 1500's) much longer because they had not yet invented poisons gases and such...
A bad guy is a bad guy is a bad guy right?

Although I'm over 50% Scottish and Irish so I am probably biased

How can you use the British Empire and the 3rd Reich as a comparison. If you want a stupid answer to a stupid question then why not Bushes government and the 3rd Reich?

Edit:

I think if you read your history books you will find that the spanish, french, and many other european countries colonised countries. It was not just the British.

The British Empire was bad, I admit it, but it did open up allot of the world e.g. The USA, Australia, much of Africa e.t.c. The British Empire was also the birthplace of steam, and much of what we take for granted today.

The Nazis on the other hand just caused thousands to die needlessly, the only thing they did for us was to invent the rocket and make us more careful about war. And do not forget that they murdered thousands of innocent civilians just for being Jews, Gay, crippled, different......

The Spanish.

How could you forget the Spanish?
Sure, maybe you can talk about the empire whose sun never sets...

But how about the one that's been reigning the longest, the one that's consistently had the harshest effects on every single civilization it's come across?

The Spanish have committed some serious attrocities over the span of the entire globe and a few centuries...

I mean, yeah, we get it, Hitler.. bad.
But how about the Spanish?
