Good question. My husband likes to see them (he doesn't have any), but I'd never get one. I've hit middle age, and things are already starting to droop. I don't want to see what state a tattoo would be in by the time I was 80. And what would happen when they went out of style?

because most people who have tattoos arent criminals and slum. Most are well educated as a matter of fact. Its a certain appreciation for art. Criminals and slums also eat candy bars, its just that society doesnt associate candy bars with crime. Its just a matter of opinon. Plus, the kind of tattoo's that criminals got in jail are a different style of tattoo all together because its more primitive. Each tattoo has a meaning, whether its simply because the wearer likes it, has an appreciation for the artist, or it is a symbol of something more significant. Plus tattoo's are REALLY addictive. But I would rather have 5 big pieces that tell a story rather than 100 little tattoo's that have no connection with each other whatsoever.

You're so full of misconceptions. I have 33 tattoos. I have NEVER been to jail or committed a crime. I have NEVER lived in a slum, nor am I a trashy person.
My tattoos are done for two reasons: #1, they are very personal to me. #2, the artwork is beautiful. I have always been an environmental activist and worked most closely in the conservation and preservation of the Everglades. The pristine natural habitats are disappearing so rapidly that I decided to start turning my photography into permanent art that I can take with me when I die and the majority of my tattoos are done from photos that I've taken of native wildlife in the Everglades. I also have some wiccan/druid tattoos because that is the Path I have always walked and that as well is very personal to me and the designs I used in those tattoos provide a protective and balancing energy for me. I also have a tattoo with my daughter's name and birthday because she is the ONLY child I can have due to complications with that pregnancy, as well a piece from H.R. Giger because I have long been a fan of his work and that's not something I will tire of, having loved his drawings for over 20 years now.
Now can you tell me a valid reason why you don't think "regular everyday people" should have tattoos without pre-judging another sect of humanity?

Speaking as one of those people who have tattoos, I would like to ask why you are so afraid of them. Obviously you have grown up in an environment that taught you tattoo=evil bad wrong.
Tattooing has always been an art form, and an expression of how you feel. It's kind of like painting and your body is a canvas that becomes living art. Tattoos are found all over the world and in all cultures, not just in jailhouses and on poor people, as you put it. For some cultures, it is a rite of passage. That's how it was with me when I got my first tattoo. It's a Celtic crescent moon on my ankle. It's not too big or gaudy. I have 3 more on different locations of my body, and I love every one of them, b/c they were all gotten for different anniversaries with my husband. Yes, I am married, for more than 6 years now, and we have a son who wants tattoos just like mom and dad when he gets older. We are not criminals. My husband is ex-Army and I'm a stay-at-home mom. We love our tattoos because they make us even more unique and that they are special to us.
So don't judge people b/c they do not look like you or your family. Different does not mean less or better than you, it's just different, and the world would be a sucky place if we all looked and acted the same.

I have two tattoo's.I'm from a family of musicians and I'm the only one with a tattoo. I got my first one at 31.I had a horrible time with Endometriosis and I finally had a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy. I got the tattoo to represent the change in my life,a new beginning if you will.An end of the old life of pain.I found out that this was very common for women who had experienced the same thing.Like a mark that the old life was over.I got another one after my divorce,do I need to say anymore on that!People do it to memorialize deaths of people who where dear to them. Its like scars of the heart that can not be seen any other way.

Tattoos are now more widely accepted. Back in the 60's and 70's it was only bikers, sailors and criminals that got it done, but now the designs are alot more attractive to mainstream. Tats represents a chapter in your life or a character you want to portray to society. Some people feel the need to express themselves this way and I say go for it. I have 3 and will get 3 more in the next 5 years.

I have tattoos and they are in good taste. I don't feel that I am associated with criminals and slum people at all. That's probably just an opinion you developed over time. Tattoos are a way for people to express how they feel and what they love. It's art for the skin. I hope your opinion changes sometime in your life.

Wow, I love this question haha My mind is blanking out right now for something that would be DEFINITE..but here are some I love... When it's love if it's not rough it isn't fun - Poker Face ... bahaha I had to :o) That that don't kill me can only make me stronger - Stronger Oh, and Viva La Vida... amaaaazing... I used to roll the dice Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes Listen as the crowd would sing: "Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!" One minute I held the key Next the walls were closed on me And I discovered that my castles stand Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand It was the wicked and wild wind Blew down the doors to let me in Shattered windows and the sound of drums People couldn't believe what I'd become

That's soooooooo overbearingly lame to say that. As you must know, not all people with tattoos and piercings have criminal records. What a stupid thing to say. And just because YOU don't like it, doesn't mean everyone else in the world is an idiot for liking it.
You need to stop being so judgmental and let people live their lives they way they choose. If they choose to get tats or piercings, you have absolutely no right to say anything. Turn you face if you don't like it.
Geez! When will people stop being so overly judgmental...

Wow, I assume you don't get out and about that much...
The days when only criminals and pirates had tattoos and earrings are long gone...
Plenty of wonderful, respected (and respectful) people have tattoos, I am sure you know by now, that the way you look does not define what sort of person you are.
Suits and ties don't make saints, it's what you do that counts...
