Welcome to the club,
What do you think if first I write the possible causes and then I type a list of practical things to do to feel better?
If you have pain in the middle of your stomach, or right side after eating very spicy-greasy meals, then there at least two or three things to consider: gallbladder stones, gastritis and gastroesophagitis -reflux-
Are you very nervous, sometimes even having diarrhea? It might be a gastritis.
If you never had this before, then you may be starting with the same problems.
Of course, there are many other possible causes, but this three are related and sometimes they happen at the same time.
Some ideas that might help you, no solutions:
Eat smaller portions
Eat earlier
Bite very well
Take a light dinner.
Drink little coffee and alcohol at least in the worst moments of pain. Better very little or nothing.
Sleep with the head lifted in relation to the rest of your body. For instance, over several pillows.
Get some rennie and start biting them as soon as you feel the burning. Take note of the hour and how many have you taken per day.
If over weighted, try to start a diet plus exercise to loose some weight. It helps.
In case that all this common advices are not helping you whatsoever, then go to your doctor. It is time to have a medical check up and receive medication according to your diagnosed problem.
Be careful, and even if no pleasant, watch your stools. If they ever became yellow or black, tell to your doctor.

If you are vomiting, you should see a doctor. You may have worse problems than minor acid reflux aka GERD. http://www.emedicinehealth.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=58662&pf=3&page=1 has lots of tips around how to reduce impact from GERD, but if you are vomiting, you probably want to see a professional.
Many people use OTC medication based off of omeprazole such as Prilosec, etc. These require time and continuous usage to have effect. Also, something as simple as extra pillows to raise your head can reduce nighttime heartburn.
Of course, avoiding eating heavy foods late can be pretty effective. If you have to eat late, eat light. Avoid acid laden foods (some salad dressing, tomato sauce, etc.).
But you should really see a doctor. GERD can relate to ulcers or other not so great digestive problems, and a doctor can help fix these easier sooner rather than later.

Well, how late do you eat. My dad eats late and junk earlier in the day. He says he gets blotation. Just don't lay down after you eat a meal. You could get a stomach hernia, then you may not. Most people don't know they have one too. Like it's when your stomach goes into your thorasic(chest) cavity. But try not eatin' so late, if you do, decrease the portion of food you eat. Try not to eat too much carbs and starch too. like potatoes and breads mixed together. Some people can't digest it right, which causes confusion for the stomach like me, and weight gain that's why i feel so full after i eat them together. so now i eat vegtables and meat. I totally did not know that until I listened to am radio 1200. Okay okay, maybe im off the subject a lil', but just trying to be helpful.

stop eating late . but if you don't , try a spoon of vinegar and sit upright for 1/2 hour before bed.the theory is the extra acid helps with digestion to get things moving along out of stomach into intestines ,preventing a reflux action and sitting up uses gravity to assist food from backing up in esophagus. OTC pills (prilosec etc. ) are the worst thing for you as they shut down digestion altogether and you get a rebound effect.

I have had that same problem and found out that if you eat something light , it will help immensly. If you have to eat late, make it simple . NO heavy foods, such as meat or spicy items. A bowl of cereal is ok if milk agrees with you . Good luck as I know how miserable this is .

Although all the answers i read were great, there is one that was missed. Lay on your left side. if u look at a diagram of your stomach, you will notice that the larger portion of your stomach is on the left side. when u lie on your right side, all the juices and acid will flow to the opening of your esophagus. If the sphincter muscles are not contracting properly, the acids will go right up into your throat and burn. I know this because i have a hiatal hernia and these words were from my doctor. check out danielles' answer. it pretty much tells the rest of the story.

that's easy. Dont eat late at night before bed. Your body needs time to digest what it ate. There is no steadfast solution if you continue to do that. If you have a hiatal hernia, that will cause your symptoms to be even worse.

Usually when somebody is overweight they get heartburn really bad... I dont know if you are overweight nor am I saying that you are... :) It can be that or acid reflux - but I would consult a GP rather than trusting an answer on yahoo! ;-)
