It may be nothing more than a small cold, but even still, have your Dr. check it out. Any cough in a baby that young should be looked at.

As long as theyre not laboring to breath, or coughing so hard theyre spitting up, or running fevers (remember new borns have a slightly higher temp than adults) then theyre probably okay for now.

Just watch them close. A common cold is one of the few things you couldnt provide them an antibody for, and their immune systems must try to defend them on their own.

Its when the battle begins to turn and congestion becomes infected that you need to worry.

I'd say if they are activily coughing you should go ahead and talk with your doctor. Being so young it is possible that they inhaled a little fluid at the time of birth, which can lead to pnumonia if its not watched carefully, orit could just be a cold and their bodies will fight it off.

If at anytime you're unsure, or worried, if they were premie or high risk infants, you should go ahead and call your dotors office and ask them what best to do.

it may be a cold my son was two weeks when he had his first cold but you need to take them to a doctor to ensure that there is no cold on the chest because it can lead to pneumonia if its just a slight cold he will prescribe something for the cough any cough or cold in young babies especially so young is cause for concern

Ok, coughing for babies could be serious and could be nothing.... If it is a real cough, then you have to consult your pediatrician, but if it is a cough like sound, it's just that they are asking for attention. Here's a link to tell you more. Good luck

It may be caused from acid reflux ... it can cause a chronic cough.. of course it could be a cold too...

I have included links below to help.. for now thought I would run a vaporizer with steam... because you can't give them any meds really unless the dr says so...
