The prominence the BBC gave it, with BREAKING NEWS bulletins, you'd think it's the end of the world as we know it. Geez! It's boring game of cricket and people coming onto the grounds 30 minutes late is the most exciting part of it.

The thing is I didn't want to watch it. I wanted to watch the news, but they kept hammering in updates.
No, I don't consider that breaking news.

Football 22 men kicking a ball about in an enclosed space?
What's cricket? One man rubbing a ball on his crotch before throwing it to someone with a big stick, while others wait around to catch it all day?

Some rather heated responses from cricket maniacs.
1) This is Yahoo Answers. No where does it say that I have to like cricket to come here, so I can participate even if I detest cricket.
2) I do think that cricket is a boring sport. That's my opinion and I'm entitled to it. Why do I think it's boring? Well, for the fact that games go on for a whole day and days on on end for a series it's just mind numbing. It's not for the lack of attention span. It's because you can watch the beginning, go out for lunch and come back 2 hours later and you won't have missed much.
3) For the news to have "as it happens" breaking news bulletins on such a dull sport is a bit tedious. Ok, so it's the first time it's happened in history. Tell us 10 minutes later and it's still the first time such a thing's happened in the history of a boring sport.
Ok, rant over.

Suppose Pakistan will be more miffed after being in a strong postion and thinking we will sulk for 5 minutes it has cost them a win but the umpire must have spotted someting wrong so good on him for having the balls to stand up to them

Every sports has its own following and flare. I presume it is a personal choice to be affiliated to a particular sport. Football is considered to be the most entertaining sports, but there would be people who despise it. So it should not be taken as boring.
Might be it did not deserve the status of a breaking news for you, but to an English (In all probability), it is of great importance, since it happened for the first time that a test match has been forfeited. It is something extraordinary. If you can find some similarity with the Zidane Butt in the football world cup final.
Making palava with cricket is again an individual choice.

Pakistan should be banned from all international cricket for at least one year for not going back out to play. They brought the game of cricket into disrepute and should be punished for it.
If they wanted to protest about what they perceive as discrimination against their team, then they should of done it in a more professional manner.
If they had stayed in their dressing room the first time but then come out onto the field, and then later after play had finished issued a statement proclaiming that they feel that they have been hard done to, then this would of been the best way to have acted. They did not, and acted like petulant chidren.

Considering it is the first time that the rule to forfeit a match has ever been used it is big sports news, and there are many hundreds of thousands of cricket followers in the UK and abroad. The umpires were totally correct, there are rules, break them and you get into trouble, break a second one and you get into more trouble. Stupid to do it over a paltry 5 runs.

Then don't watch it.. I hate football. So I know how you feel. the tedium of watching 22 men pass a round ball around an enclosed space for 90 minutes is about as stimulating hammering your testicles with a mallet.
