A bunch of sophmores yelled and cursed at them and said they were going to use the song instead. My granddaughters friend spent a lot of money on props, clothing and the CD. The teacher said "since your are freshmen, you have to give up the song so the sophmores can use it." My husband said this is normal in every school. I think it is wrong of the teacher to encourage the older students to do this. What do you think??

It is very wrong. If the sophomore's can't come up with one on their own then they need to be song-less. It infuriates me to hear the phrase: "that's just the way the world is" That does not make it right. That kind of attitude is why our government is out of control on both party lines. We as a public just roll over and take it 'cause "that's just the way the world is" It's disgusting.

If murder and rape were "normal in every high school" would that make it an acceptable practice? I think not. Fight for the right to own that song. The teacher that told your granddaughter that she'll have to give up the song needs terminated. This borders on communistic behavior. The last I checked "Thou Shalt Not Covet" was still one of the 10 commandments. Get over it sophomores; write your own song or is there not enough talent in the whole sophomore class to come up with their own unique song? If not I wouldn't recommend a single one for advancement to the Junior class.

It's just a class? Not some kind of show?

Then who cares if more than one group does the same song.

The teacher should have had some kind of sign up well before anyone had a chance to purchase props if she didn't want duplication. Sounds like a case of a very unprepared teacher - she shouldn't take it out on the students.

I dont think its normal for a teacher to say that....in my school the sophmores and seniors do tease the freshmens, but we dont bully them.
