When I joined, I thought it was a site where people with genuine questions could post them and expect to get useful and sensible answers. HOW WRONG CAN YOU BE ! ! !
It's turned out to be the home of some very strange people of whom I can include myself (ABUSERS PLEASE NOTE so that you don't have to waste your valuable time telling me so - I already know), and on very rare occasions you will find a good question with a few good answers, but invariably the children will always have to proffer a selection of useless "Yep"s, "Nope"s ans "Don't know"s which just go to annoy people, and then the poor dears get upset when somebody (often me!) complains.
So I agree with you: What IS the point!

I think it's about winning points by answering questions in order to see how many times you can get violation deductions from yahoo for censoring your own profanities with *s... for example f*ck is not acceptable even though it has been personally censored yet if you censor your profanities by putting spaces between the letters as so... f u c k thus making them more obscene and no-one gets reported using this method, this approach is more subtle and slips through the net, also this site exists for such reasons as research, asking advice on certain topics, gathering information and upsetting christians by asking about discrepancies in the bible. firstly think of a question that you cannot answer for yourself, type it in the "ask" box at the top and only post questions about christianity in the philosophy section or you will get a violation deduction of 5 points, please see "communuty guidelines" posted at the bottom of the page.
I hope I have given you adequate information to answer your question. please enjoy your visit to yahoo answers.

You have a valid point, being as I think this "site" originates in Area 51. Yahoo Answers has not been the success that Yahoo had hoped.

hey, Vadim, just thought I would answer your question but my husband is nagging me about going to the car wash...
better go! lol

4 hours later ...
phew! I'm back
it exists for people to find answers to any questions they might have, for example: stuck on a computer game? you have hundreds if not thousands of people out there you can ask
questions might pop into your mind: I wonder why / how / where ... you can put on this site and people will come back and answer you
I think you will find a lot of people go on this site, for fun/entertainment, it's interactive! ask a question and soon you have lots of answers, even if it's trivial. It's just enjoyment
browse through the questions and you will get the hang of it

I think it exists so that people could get a reasonable answer to a serious question but it has obviously been taken over by featherbrained people with nothing better to do than to ask stupid or meaningless questions. Too bad!

It would be a good idea if people used it properly, as in, to get answers to things they would like to know.

Unfortunately it seems to be mostly inhabited by the sort of idiots that also frequent chat rooms, IE. only a handful of brain cells and most of them are not firing on all cylinders.

Just because it's a fun way to pass the time and on occasion, we actually learn something.
There are countless meaningless moments to our day but this site is just simple, harmless fun.

Ours is not to wonder why, ours is but to do or die.
