It is called a Greek tragedy, and I think the writers are saying that all good things must come to an end. Surely you have loved, (and hopefully still do) and sadly, we will all die, but death allows us to cherish the time we have with loved ones that much more. Think of what it would be like if no-one died? I think we would stop caring. Now call your mother and tell her you love her.

if you are not with this "love" you had/have now then obviously your heart hurts even if it was for better, but also if you are even still thinking about your love obviously you are still feeling that loss. And one of the stages of loss is anger and blame and hate and...... (well u get it...) So it is natural for you past love story to always have a bad version or even just be a bad one always, because of the grieving. Usually people need to feel better about a hard situation by directing all the negative towards the person or whatever it was as to why their heart is hurt.
also isnt it so true that people as a whole tend to think about the negative first and it seems that a sad or bad story or situation is of more interest to them then opposite. so maybe we just here alot of bad endings cause when people are hurt or mad they express it and we listen cause its the right thing to do. but reverse the situation to a good story miserable poeple dont want to know about happy people usually unless they actually really do love (family friend ...)that person then they can be happy the other is or was happy ........... not resentful or something else negative...

Not all great love stories end badly. You can make the choice of how you want yours to be.Remember you are the writer and director or your own great love story .Those people you may have read about made their choices, yours does not have to pattern after theirs.Be a sucker for a good end.Show the world something different!!

They are remembered better that way. Think about any great love story and I bet that at least the first few answers will be those that died for love and such.

EDIT - And try to get past thinking of Romeo and Juliet.. Not all sad love stories were written by the same person.

because if they ended up happily you would be asking the question 'why do all love stories end up happily, when it doesn't happen in real life?' If you think about it when they end up badly it makes the story better, look at Titanic, people cried when it went Jack died which is what people like because it gets them emotionally.

You are probably refering to Shakespearian tragedy. There are other love stories that never became great, because apparently having a happy ending is common. People want always a twist, a sad ending.

My answer is there is no greater love than one of sacrifice. If you believe that true love is being able to give in to the loved one's desire, the outcome would always seem to be tragic. But that is what makes it so dynamic. It creates a very vicarious reading that entices you to keep on reading.

Because everybody loves a good tragedy. Its only in fairy tales that they all live happily ever after.
