Yes, the Indian system works very well, but the whole dowry system is very demeaning to women - 'Here, I'll pay you big bucks to take her off my hands.'
My husband refused a dowry when we got married. That's the only way to end the system: if the groom and the groom's family refuse it.
Otherwise, the bride can be - as you all know - in really big trouble.

Dowry system has only evolved in indian culture over the years. It was never told in any of the scriptures that dowry should be paid for the girl. I absolutely do not support this practice. Of course one should exchange gifts at a wedding, but the stress lies on "exchange" meaning that everyone gets something.
I don't understand how poeple can still do this nowadays. This is part of why women in India are so desperate to have boys, as they will not have to pay any dowry for them...
The marriage system apart from that I believe to be very good as well. If you do have some boy or girl you love your parents should not stand in your way however, if he/she matches you. If you have no one, an arranged marriage is also a good way to lead a nice life without bothering about if your parents will like your spouse etc...
I would favour an arranged marriage for my children, if they have not found their soulmate when they are old enough.

i'm an Indian living in India. there has been an editorial contained in the Hindu, an English on a daily basis, declaring the evil of dowry equipment is on the wane. the governmentreason is the very truth the girls those women earn good money and are economically autonomous. because the lads also get an excellent type of girls earning, in addition they don't sense compelled to call for dowry. it really is available that it really is practiced and is not completely discarded. the in ordinary words way this will be completely eliminated is for the girls all to be knowledgeable and economically empowered. That day isn't a ways off.

Marriage does not last if there isn't an Iota of love between the partners. As about dowry. You are a victim as long as you are ready to be a victim.Thats it.

In Answer, my question to you is - how do you personally going to contribute your bit to improve this situation? Or when the time will come - like your marriage, your children marriage or some one close in the family getting married, are you going to take any firm stand against the wrong part? or just be with the crowd. All these years we have been just discussing and discussing only, these issues.
Please do mention your honest vow while choosing the best answer.
