It depends. Various kinds of chemical imbalances can result in paranoia, excess cortisol probably being the most likely candidate.

Paranoia can also be a reasonable response tho, for instance people returning from war zones are often paranoid, but in their case it's a rational response because they've learned through prior experience that such threats are real.

There's probably such a thing as paranoia with an exclusively physiological origin, and such a thing as paranoia with an exclusively social origin - but I'd be willing to bet that in the vast majority of cases it's a combination of the two.

Paranoid. I am not paranoid. Who said I paranoid. I bet it was the the IRS they are out to get me you know. Or it could have been the FBI they are spying on me I'm sure of it

Mental instability. I worked at a Mental Health home and one woman was completely paranoid. She thought people were always out to "Hurt her body" and other things.

So past traumatic experiences, severe or not, causes it. I think so at least in my personal experiences!

Well.... Past experiences that you are still tramatized by. I was abused by my father for many long years and that is the reason I am paranoid

Bush has done a pretty good job with his constant ranting about "terrrr" and "terrrists." People have actually stockpiled plastic wrap and duct tape because of this guy.

there are a lot of things make people become so paranoid.firstly theis past experience,secondly their attitude, thirdly people around them and lastly their environment where they live. Most of the case it happens because their owns ambition that too much.they force theirselves to get the ambitions.
