He had a religous film about Jesus being flogged and killed. Then he goes out, gets drunk, and says mean things about Jewish people. What do you think about this? There are only two possible conclusions I see. Either (1) he is a hypocrite or (2)he may not be a hypocrite but just used bad judgement when he went out to drink. Which one do you think is right?

He's an actor not a saint. He obviously has a problem (wow he's human!) and yes, used bad judgement.

A very wise man once said... "let he that is without sin cast the first stone!"

I always liked the way Mel Gibson looked (especially when he was younger with long hair...)
But when I found out he was a religious whack job, I can't stand him now. Anyone who publicly flaunts their religion has psychological problems - and why does it always seem to be the zealot catholics? Get a life! I think both your guesses 1 & 2 are right. He is definitely a hypocrite and he definitely has bad judgement, not to mention an ego the size of earth. I can't stand the man anymore. I still love BraveHeart though...... such a shame his true self has been exposed.

My ideas on Mel Gibson have not replaced. did not like or hate him or any of his video clips. I purely sense that some anybody is hipocrites. even as the Chris Brown element ensue any type of abuse became incorrect. He became the concern of all talk shows even as they were talking about abuse. Now that Mel Gibson is stuck verbally abusing his female friend this is all a set up and boatloads of celebrities are protecting him.. Mel Gibson will be ok. Oprah or Tyra can not make him the concern of abusive habit. BTW i'm not on both facet they don't desire me they both have an excellent volume of hipocrites on their facet.

I think he does have something against the Jews. Remember that Hollywood is run by Jews and they not only gave Mel their backs when he wanted a distributor for "Passion", they tried to stop him. I'm sure they're giving him a hard time with his new film since they are bitter over the success of a bible account that he accurately portrayed.Of course he's bitter, but at least he has tried to keep his tongue under control until he got drunk.

No, I think he is still a brilliant actor and man. I think he is not a hypocrite, he wrote Passion of the Christ like the Bible. The Jewish people were the one who got Jesus in the mess any way! It says that in the Bible, his own people accepted him and pushed him away at the same time! The Sanhedrin and all of'em were Jewish!

I think he did a foolish thing by getting drunk and carrying on, but !!! any of at one time or another has not did something we regretted and wish we could take back, his skills as movie maker is awesome I think, but he's trying so hard to make it write, at least he did not have a news conference blaming someone else, he took full responsibility for his actions, I respect that part of this

Personally I think he made some bad judgement calls. An excess of alcohol makes us do things we probably wouldn't normally do.
As far as any of this crap goes, the news/gossip/tabloids don't change my opinion of anyone. Regardless of their stupidity, sluttiness, and triumphs, my opinion of celebrities professional skills does not change. If an actor is talented but also a jackass, that doesn't mean I will stop watching his movies.

My opinion of Mel Gibson has not changed.

To me, Mel is an actor and director. Sometimes I go to see his movies, sometimes I don't. I haven't seen Passion of the Christ (and I am Christian)

To me, Mel Gibson, he has never been the epitome of anything. He is a man, imperfect as the rest of us. He does not guide my conscience or influence my opinions or philosophy.

The question is complicated. "What Women Want" indicated he respects women but hates blacks. "Passion of the Christ" could easily be interpreted as anti-Jewish. His comment however crude has a basis in fact. As a non-drinker, I can't help objecting to people who are forgiven for things said and done while under the influence.
