Letting me start by saying I am a lifetime second generation New York Yankees fans.
That being said, you have to give the man his due. I hate seeing him come to the plate late in a close game, because he often gets the job done. Besides it is hard to be a clutch hitter when your team is losing by more then four runs, as often was the case this weekend.
Another thing to keep in mind is, as great as Ortiz is, he still will fail at least 50% of the time, that is just the nature of baseball.

Baseball is a game of failures, i mean the most sucessful hitters only hit in 30% of the time, Ortiz has his fair share of clutch hits, but don't expect him to walk off every weekend.

The man doubled to lead of the 9th. In MLB you have to score someone from second base with 0 outs. I'm sorry that was poor baseball by the Red Sox. Youkilis has to get Papi to third, that was inexcusable. That being said, Hinske has to put that ball in play, the only thing worse than a strike out would have been a double play.
Red Sox should have won that game in the bottom of the ninth with Ortiz's double to start the inning.

4 games don't make a season or a career. You sound like a phillies fan. Mike Schmidt could hit 3 home runs in a game and strike out his last at bat and get booed. I am not a Red Sox fan but the guy can't do it every game. There are 8 other batters on the team too.

LOL - I was surprised to see him just hit a relatively weak and routine fly in that spot too. Still, he wasn't in his element, even if he homered it still would have left them a run down with Manny up. Maybe Ortiz can only turn it on when its a game tying or walk off situation. :)
