The quickest way is to apply an ice cube to the cold sore as soon as you feel it starting, but it can also be used on the cold sore in the blister stage to get rid of it faster. The ice freezes the interior of the cold sore and keeps it from further blistering and growing larger. I've used it for many years, as I am prone to cold sores. Use 1 ice cube about 3 times a day, or more, if you wish. Just hold the ice cube in a cloth to catch the drips.

My daughter gets them all the time. We use Campho Phenique (spelling?). It is strong and you pat it on and it starts tingling. It is gone in a day or two with this stuff. Nothing else works as well for her.

Don't burst it, that seems to make them worse and spread. And if you don't they don't seem to stick around long either. Don't mess with it either.
