Most answers are good.
Few years ago, for example, wind energy was lot more expensive to produce then to day; and it is still more expensive than other energies, in most locations.
This is almost true of all renewable energies, with few exceptions.
Pollution:
Say by magic wand I was to convert all the cars to battery operated electric cars. It would still create pollution that may be even more toxic.
No body knows the future for sure but I see some kind of mix energy solution.
I am hoping we will learn to get more out of very little energy; we will use it sparingly and wisely. I am hoping we will not run out of all present forms of fossil sources.
Earthquakes and volcanoes bring up fossil to the surface, from deep reaches of the earth, sometimes similar events can make energy sources disappear.
As conventional sources of ennergies get more expencive, other source will look more useable.
In the past, the present and in future the governigs fact will alway stay the same, "more bang of the buck".

Fossil wont last anywhere near 200 years, think more like 20
So, what are we gonna do, freeze, get warm by running round like headless chickens, or....
bio fuels rock, seriously
solar is getting better every few months
dont forget wind and wave power
and if all else fails, nuclear will do the trick
one thing to consider though, machines and electronics inparticular have been getting more and more efficient, but yet we still need more energy.
we would all do well to take a close look at energy waste

Obviously the SUN will be continue to be the primary source of energy for humans in the future.
Nuclear energy will also stand a good chances.

Many sources, primarily solar, geothermal, and nuclear. Wind energy and tidal/wave energy in some places. Renewable biofuels will be big.

I have a theory that if we bottle all the hot air blown out by politicians we will have enough energy to supply the world for the next 1000 years.

electrical energy and heat energy from solar energy
bio fuels from plants, nuclear energy from non radioactive elements
gravitational energy i think a machine which continually rotates due to gravity can be useful.

fossil fuels will get finished in may be 100 years but bio fuel ,nuclear and solar and wind will be utilised to the optimum and efficiency will be improved.
