On my network, every time I log on to any website or connect to any web site that uses windows media player, my network crashes. I can logon or connect if it is just one computer but not through the router. Everything else works perfectly. This is a royal pain! Tried adjusting network settings in windows media player. No disk came with the Lynksys router. Went to the website, no disk required.

I sounds like a problem with windows Media Player. Try uninstalling and then reinstalled media player.

Routers use NAT (Network Address Translation) to let multiple local IPs (192.168.x.y) share a single real IP. When an outbound connection is created router associates that port with the internal clients IP and when packets arrive from net to that port they are redirected to the originating local machine. But when an outside machine sends a packet to a local computer without prior established connection on that port (even you use the web site port 80, it doesn't mean that you opened the WMV streaming port too) router can't know which local machine this packet is sent to. Many games, P2P file sharing progs and local web servers require you to do the appropriate port forwarding settings on your router; or if both your router, OS, application support UPnP it can be configured automatically.
