I am a mother to a 3 year old boy...thankfully I have not had this problem. My son is very accepting of everyone...I remember he went up to a burned man in a wheelchair and patted his leg and said "hi".
I'm very indifferent toward people...not "mean" or "rude", just indifferent. I will politely say "hello" to whomever or I just walk by. I think my son has picked up on the innocent aspect of my behavior and frankly doesn't care what people look like or who they are...because I don't. Now my reason is because I don't care, but he has picked up on my attitude nonetheless and with a child that doesn't know indifference, he just sees it as a very simple concept...there must be no difference.
Parents don't know how much they effect their children. If a parent stares, or if a parent makes comments, their children will pick up on that. Since I don't stare and since I don't make comments, my son sees nothing wrong with anyone. Why would he? He hasn't been exposed by me to see any difference in people.
I know that I never asked questions about people because my parents were the same why. When I got older I learned on my own peoples differences...but that wasn't from my parents.
So your true question should be is this...WHY do kids ask questions about the handicapped? And the answer is parents.
Hope this helps.

i'm no longer an atheist, yet rather an agnostic. At an early age teenagers learn that many stuff adults tell them are no longer authentic. they have not greater evidence of angels or God than they do of the Easter Bunny. interior the tip I clarify that neither technological awareness or faith have ever presented plenty interior the way of motives for me. I in basic terms ask them if some thing can come from no longer something. They are conscious of it may no longer. I then clarify that there could be greater to this international than all and sundry is conscious and that faith provides that answer for many human beings.

Gays are only strange to your children if you tell them it's strange. I think 'the fact that you combine gays and handicapped together says it all.

i work with visually impaired children. The little girl that i am one on one with is both blind and deaf (she is 4). There is this little boy in the class who has vision but its not what it should be. anyways, he would always come up to me and ask me what was wrong with her, or why she would do something. its very hard for children to understand that people are different from them.
Anyways, to explain it you can either involve God or not. either way you want to answer their question. What i would tell him is that everyone is special. Everyone is different in there own way. She can see because born that way. (he would reply but why) b/c thats what makes her special. just like you wearing glasses makes you special, this makes her special.
Try to make it personal for them. Try to make them relate in someway to it.

Im not a parent but i have three younger brothers, they usually dont say anything because our mom is disabled. if part of your q is to find out if people diss the disabled then i can tell you that we dont. My mom used to work with them and i used to sit and talk with them in the school cafeteria.I think this is a very good q to ask!!

Blessed be!!!!

The answer is applicable except for 4. They are less fortunate to have the limitations from that of a normal person and we in society have to help them to be called a civilised one.
