The teachers in these schools have more "power" (if you will) over the children. Perhaps this extra restrictions as a child attending these types of school creates the opposite behaviour in adulthood i.e. the unrestricted behaviour paedophiles exibit

Pedophilia is generally not that well understood, but one theory is that it's a form of arrested development. Where kids/young adults don't have sexual experiences as adolescents and young adults, and consequently experience a failure to connect to other adults, they regress back, or get stuck in, the time where children were their peers - thus children become the object of their adult sexual urges.

That's why there's thought to be an overrepresentation of pedophiles amongst gay men - not because gay men are inherently any more likely to be pedophiles, but because growing up their pool of mates was much smaller and they had all the social restrictions on homosexuality to deal with too. So it's considerably more likely they were unable to find partners to have sexual and other adult bonding experiences with in adolesence and young adulthood. For much the same reasons, it's believed to be an explanations as to why pedophiles are overrepresented in the priesthood.

In the case of private/grammar schools many are single-sex, which not only reduces mates at the time, but also presents a problem in terms of learning to interact with the opposite sex, which will in turn produces problems after leaving school in finding someone to have formative sexual and bonding experiences with.

And it's not crap btw, whoever said that. Certainly pedophiles can and do come from all walks of life, but it's a well established fact that pedophiles are overrepresented in certain groups, one of which is private/grammar schools, and particularly boarding schools. Because of the hot-button political nature of this subject, and the relative ease of backwards population studies, the data on trends like this is voluminous.

Did they? Quote your source.
Do you mean most convicted paedophiles?
Paedophile behaviour is probably learned during the first 6 months of life, by children who are not given enough love and adult contact by their primary carer. Especially if they are looked after mostly by other children, they imprint on children's faces, not those of adults. Old ladies who lean into prams and coo are not being irritating, they are acting on instinct, babies need to see adult faces regularly.
There was a repulsive experiment done with a group of baby monkeys who were taken away from their mothers and raised with either a wire frame for a mother or a wire fram covered in soft fabric.
The second group did slightly better as infants, being more outgoing and sociable; but the end result of the experiment was that neither group were able to breed or raise their young normally or successfully.
Lessons learned during the imprinting phase of our childhood can be unlearned, because we are humans not animals and have that capacity; but for kids who have cold, sterile, unloving homes their early experiences are just reinforced.
If at the same time they live in a coldly critical environment and grow up with low self confidence and self esteem, they are more likely both to feel that way AND act it out.

Perpaps the media finds it more able to sensationalise the issue when using examples from private or grammar backgrounds, but this is not the case and is a huge generalisation. Certainly at all boys boarding schools there was more scope for it to go unnoticed and this may have had an effect on the issue. But there are plenty from the state education background too.

It never ceases to amaze me how people not only assume all child molesters are paedophiles...some are pederasts (look it up)...and that they are all male.

Having worked with these people for a great many years I can assure that education and privilege does not a paedophile make!

I ask myself the question...do some contributors to these pages just like to stir up feeling...after all paedophile behaviour is an highly emotive subject...if you can hang it on a social group or ethnic group...well...the loonies really do come out to play then!

A totally awful stereotype on my part now...
Could be because people who go to private/gammer schools are more intelligent that other people. Therefore, the thick pedo's who went to your local school end up getting caught earlier in there life of crime - they get banged up at 18 for robbing a shop with a banana or something, and don't have access to kids.
Intelligent pedos don't get caught for their crimes for a longtime, and get deeper into it.
Just to clear up, I don't ever think paedophilia is acceptable.

How can you even begin to make such an assertion? Have you some specific studies that demonstrate what you claim? Sounds unreal to me.

Cheers!!
