Muscle does NOT weigh more than fat, contrary to the wrong info you have been given here. Think about it, what weighs more, a pound of muscle, or a pound of fat?

Anyway, you probably gained weight because your muscles tend to hold onto more water when you first start exercising.

Also, you may not be eating ENOUGH now to compensate for all the extra exercise you have been doing. Your metabolism could have slowed down. Think about it like this...you will have to put more gas in your car if you want it to go farther, right?

Keep sticking it out. Your instructor is correct in telling you not to worry, but try a couple of the above things I mentioned. Increase your food intake by a couple hundred calories each day, or drink more water so your muscles will start letting some of the water go, and then you should see a drop on the scale.

Also, a pound of muscle takes up less space than a pound of fat....so have you noticed any changes in your clothing size. hopefully going down? Take your measurements. Check your body fat percentage. The scale LIES.....

Good luck to you, and good for you for taking such an important step for taking care of your body. Awesome!!

If you are first timer in working out you will normally gain weight in the first month or so because you are gaining muscle and losing your fat. But as time moves on your wieght will stabilize and depending on your diet and what kind of routine you have you will start to lose weight. If you eat healthy and do lots of cardio excersizes (jogging/plenty of reps) you will start to lose weight soon. But gaining weight when you first start is perfectly normal. Just hang in there.

Muscle weighs more than fat (fat floats), so as you're replacing the fat with muscle, you will gain some weight. But you'll start losing after a while, and what you're gaining now is better for you than what was there before.

Maybe you are doing to many weight exercises and not enough Cardio .Spend more time on the treadmill and bike and when you do weights put a small weight on because you just need to tone those areas the more weight you lift the more muscle you gain fat turns to muscle and muscle is heavier than fat. good luck.

When you have fats and then you do gym all of a sudden, seeing that gym is quite a vigorous activity the fats have no time to completely burn off and then muscles form so now you have muscle (which weigh heavier too) over fats. Excercise REGULARLY and eat healthy and it'll be okay.

maybe your're gaining muscles.

are you doing weight lifts? if so, that may be the case. first your muscles will build up and then it will kill those fats!!!!

haha. try it out for maybe another 4 months. check your weight after that. think you are going to lose weight.

but if you think your instructor is in it for the money, get another instructor who is genuinely trying to help.

all the best!

I wouldn't quit. A lot of times when you first start working out, you build up quite a bit of muscle really quickly and it weighs more than fat so you will gain weight. Give it time and it will balance out if you stick with it.

you def need to eat way more, your BMR is prob over 2800. Even if you didnt workout at all you wouldnt gain weight with that. 3500 minimum, 4000 easily. Your metabilism is in the fastest catagory possible, young physically active male. Let's just say it would be very difficult to eat too much. So start chowin down.

Ones body weight loss is not directly proportional to the exercise of a particular amount. The exerciese definitely helps to bring down the weight and you have to weight.
