I cant usually stand reality tv of any type, but I found myself watching the opening rounds of x-factor yesterday... and I actually found it difficult to watch, it was painful.

Now, having had crap like the x-factor, pop idol and all that running for some time now, why do people who MUST be aware they are completely the wrong type of person apply for it?

When you see the tubby, ugly & talentless Northern Lass in the line, I have to wonder if she REALLY thinks she is going to be the next winner, like they are suddenly going to break from the tried & tested star model for her? Next thing, Simon Cowell has ripped her to pieces for the cameras & she is bawling, saying her life is ruined. Why did she set herself up for a public fall? She must have seen it coming!

But, even if you thought you had a shot at winning, why would people want to? 3 months of B list 'fame' at best. You get a single, then 6 months later the world has forgotten you.

Why would anyone want to do this?

Haven't you ever wanted something so badly that you haven't cared what it took to get it, have you ever believed your the right person for a job, even if the guy next to you has 3 master degrees, they just see themselves as the right person for what ever it is they are going for, of course its very touching and hard to watch these people have these self delusions about themselves, but haven't we all had that in our life at sometime, you know we all have lessons in life to learn, some of us the easy way and some of us unfortunately the hard way, maybe that's why we have to be taught these lessons before we make even bigger mistakes, if people have or want their delusions of grandeur then let them have their fall by the wayside too, just don't knock them for it.

Andy Warhol famously said everyone should be famous for fifteen minutes and that's what these people are aiming for. Perhaps some are self-delusional - the reaction they give suggests so and I think counselling should be on hand for those people together with a load of trucks to take them away once they've been sectioned. For the others, they think if they are really bad and kick off enough they'll get featured in the programme, maybe get a little spot on X-Factor Xtra too, and then they can let their local papers and TV stations know, do the rounds of them and there you have it - fifteen minutes up!

I absolutley agree , I actually cringed , watching it on Saturday, are people really that desperate to become a "pop star", as if that is all that matters ,they put their life and soul into it , which is all very well if you can sing or at least hold a note. Ten out of ten for those that try , I certainly couldnt do it. But surely .... people must realise how much manufacturing goes on here?? There are some really good singers with great voices , but they want more than that.. Oh well it's one way to get on the tele......

some just want to get to meet Sharon, Louis and Simon and be a part of a TV series and then brag about it to people. Others are in their own little deamworld and really think they'll get somewhere and some are looking for fame seeing as Brenda, who was just on a holiday/weekend out with her husband now is in Chicago and Andy who was just a dustbin-man is now really rich and Chico is really rich too and Shayne. Well he used to be a plain-old shoe seller but now he's bucketing the money and he's mega-famous, super-rich and an international superstar. So people just think, what is there to lose.

People will do anything for fame. Just look at the countless celebs who started their careers in the porn industry, or as page 3 girls etc. I agree. They get five minutes of y-list (BB people are z-list) fame and then disappear. What a waste of time.

If they want to be famous, make a band up, learn an instrument (or learn to sing, for pete's sake) and get there the hard way, through toil and self-effort, start at the bottom and work your way up.

The bands that earn my respect are the ones who write their own music, play their own instruments and started at the very bottom. Not jumped in with the big boys through some crappy tv show.

Unfortunately, I think these people do actually believe that they are really good at what they are doing and that they look good in their outfits. I personally wonder if they have any friends or family, because you would expect them to tell them the truth. I do wonder though what they think of themselves when they watch it back on the sat night!

Regardless of that, if you really wanted to be a singer, you would get lessons and work like crazy to achieve your goal. No-one like Simon Cowell would stop you and his comments (bad or good) aren't the end of the world. You have to be tough to be a performer as not every one will like you all of the time and I think thats something these people on X-Factor forget.

It's because people either

1. They think they can because their family and friends tell them so, as they don't want to be rude.

2. They don't have anything better to do but sit in a long line of poeple and wait to see 3 famous judges, and have a chance of being on TV.

3. They are slightly mentally ill.

4. They go to kareoke parties, and they think they're allright, but the truth is everybody is too drunk to tell him/her to get off the stage!

That's what I think, anyway!

Because people have been conned into believing in a celebrity culture and who can blame them when they see non entities on reality TV shows and folks spilling their guts on 'Trisha' and the like. Even when they have been ripped to shreds they are still having their 15 seconds of fame. That's why they do it.

i seriously can't stand that thing, you know at the end its going to churn out some mindless junk. People sell themselves short (well the ones with talent), its a short time fix and it'll probably give so much limelight that after wards all your negative characterists will be what people see and remember, not a good way to start any career
