Thank you, Oracle of Delphi! -- I was beginning to get that 'everybody hates me' vibe!

Everybody else, just take a deep breath please! As I mentioned above, my Q was inspired by a story told on a Y!360 blog, not by some sinister motivation of my own. I happen to be an atheist myself, so discrimination against them tends to rub me the wrong way, to say the least. I'm glad that most of you disagree with the proposition.

What happened to freedom of religion? If we had to throw out everyone who was not a devout Christian, we wouldn't have much left. We'd have even have had to get rid of the man who authored the Declaration of Independence--Thomas Jefferson was a Deist (he believed God existed, but that did not mean he needed to be worshipped).

I'm British, just wanted to give my perspective. I think any atheists living in the bible belt would probably be glad of a life elsewhere. From what I've heard, life can be quite tough for non-believers, with schools teaching creationism as a viable alternative to evolution. I'm glad to see little support for forcing people to move anywhere, but I imagine a powerful minority would support the idea. Finally, why do people assume any question asked reflects your personal opinion? Have they never heard of playing devil's advocate? I took the time to check some of your own answers, and you seem like a balanced, thoughtful person.

One of the most profound freedoms in this country is the freedom of religion. To center out one group of people (Atheists, Jews, Christians, Catholics, etc.) would be acting as a tyrant. You would be lowing yourself to Hitlers level, or the level of some undeveloped countries who have no respect for individual beliefs. It would be as if we were rounding up people who's Avatars have brown hair, telling them they are wrong and sending them off to some other country. By even posting this question (whether you believe this should be done or not) would put you in the same category as Sudam Hussein and Fidel Castro, and you really don't want to be like then do you?

If you did that, then this would not be America any more! Freedom of Religion (including no religion at all) has been a fundamental right in America right from the very beginning.

I suspect that where ever you sent the atheists would become America, and this land would become Iran!

Question for the asker: Jews should be forced to go to another country, agree or disagree? Blacks should be forced to go to another country, agree or disagree?

Are either of those two statements offensive? Wrong? Not worth even considering for a second? Of course.

Should anyone consider that statement with any race/religion substituted, including atheism? Of course not.

I disagree. I'm a christian. You can't just kick someone out of the country because of there beliefs. How would you feel you were kicked out of the country cause you were a christian, muslim, etc. Besides the first amendment protects them from being kicked out of the country. After all this is a free country.

America is supposed to be the great melting pot. And in America, people have freedom of religion. Regardless of who disagrees, people should have the right to believe whatever they want. That's part of the "free will" God gave us.

No, America is a free country. There are probably less problems with atheists than other "religions".

Why on earth should they?

Just to let you know, this country was founded on religious freedom from Britian.

Secondly, your comment/question is childish, intolertant, and of course would NEVER even happen.

So why ask the question just to stir up controversy?
