I really don't understand why we have "Supermodels" ???

Question

They are far too thin to be considered sexy. Does anyone out there really think they epitomize the sexuality of women? I sure don't.
I find girls with healthy figures sexy for sure, but that's all about having the right curves & great muscle definition, not ribs & hip bones sticking out all over the place. I'm sure this sort of thing has been asked before, but I can't help wondering what the fashion industry is thinking?
in my opinion, girls should not have to think they need to starve themselves to be attractive.

YES! They are way to skinny and that just makes Teens want to be skinny so they will not eat for days or just make themself puke!, just to make them look skinny, which I think looks ugly! If you want to look good be on a healthy diet, exercize, and that will get girls on a nice toned body!

I think there is actually a reason "why" we have supermodels.

First, if I were a designer, I would want to have someone who could best display the design of my clothes. If they are meant to drape here, crease there, flow this way and that, then I would want to have someone wear them who would not cause them to move in ways that they weren't designed to move. If a person has a bulge here or a fullness there, then my clothes will move differently and may even be distorted and, well, ugly. Even on the supermodels, the clothes are pinned to show their best features. The designer is selling clothes. To sell my creation, I would need the right tools. The supermodel is the tool.

Second, in our culture we enjoy the feel of wealth and elegance. Even if we are as poor as paupers, we seem to love basking in the light of the glamorous. Who, then, is more glamorous than the person displaying the product created by these super-designers? We want to know more about them. They become symbols and we give them a place of honor. The better the product, the more important the model must be. We've then created a special place on the shelf for those people who model the symbols of prosperity. The fashion industry didn't create these people, we as a society did.

We have created jobs for super skinny chicks who really couldn't hack it in the real world. God forbid that they had to work some sort of blue collar job and actually get paid a normal salary and not be able to afford brunch on Sunday!!

By all means girls dont listen to this guy ilook around and there nothing wrong with something to compare to you dont have to look just like them cause lets face it nobody is going to without amillion dollar make over everydday. When there not on the cover of some magazine they are just the girl next door to.

I agree with you. Personally I find them repulsive in that they walk down that runway with a facial expression on them that looks like they are smelling something foul. So it's not like they are actually pretty or anything.

Well, my parent's signed me up to be a model and I met Tyra Bank's and she said that she love's it and I don't think they you have to be sexy to be a supermodel.
