I am looking for serious answers from fans about whether they still watch Stargate since the changes of season 9&10.
Last friday was SG's 200th episode--what did you think?

Since posting this question it came out on the entertainement news(last night) that Stargate has been canceled. Alantis lives for another season.

I thought this was coming but I am stunned at the timing. How about you?

Yes I still watch Stargate sg1 even though it doesn't have the same dynamic as it used to. I was pretty mad when they made the Prometheus, because if I wanted to watch a ship movie I would watch star trek, andromeda, farscape or star wars. That is what I liked about this show it was about the people, in our time, dealing with our problems with our level of technology. They lost that element when they switched to the ori, they were always on their ships and dealing with powers so far beyond us. They seemed to get stupider because they kept going after the ori even though they knew they were going to get beaten. The 200th episode is one of the worst ever, I was so stupid! While I understood all the little references to other shows and episodes they just weren't taking it seriously enough to make me believe anything. And where was Michael Shanks for episodes 4 and 5? I also wasn't happy that they are just so gung ho about welcoming Mitchell to the team and letting him lead them while they were so mean to Jonas Quinn, Vala Maldoran, Col. Makepeice, and Dr. Rothman when they joined. It just seemed so out of character. I've never liked Atlantis but I've started watching it this year because the writers, producers and visual effects people seem to be focusing all their attention on it and the episodes are more rewarding to watch than sg1. I have been an sg1 fan for 4 years and even went to a convention so I will still buy the DVDs. While I am sad that stargate sg1 is being cancelled I'm not surprised, this season has just been so disapointing.

"200" was hilarious, and everything I'd hoped for from SG-1's "big two-oh-oh!" Since I didn't start watching the show until it switched to SciFi in season seven, I haven't had as long to form an opinion as others. I love the original team, yes, but I am very much enjoying the direction this new ensemble is taking.

It's a little darker, yes, and certainly a lot more relevant to today's issues: the dangers of religious extremism (which they expose by basing the followers of the Ori off of Christian fundamentalists). Because the core three have had ten years to develop their characters, there's so much depth to what they do that it draws the other, newer characters in and seems to give them that same level of dimension. The best news is, though, despite all this gloom and doom, the characters still know how to have a good time with one another.

Another thing I find very amusing is the "time warp". Ben Browder is 43, two-and-a-half years older than Daniel Jackson... who is FIVE years older than Cameron Mitchell... who is the SAME age as Michael Shanks. They look close to the same age, though, so you'd never know! (And if Shanks did look that much younger, you could always blame it on Daniel being on his third body.)

Addendum (08/22): I was stunned, shocked, and dismayed at the sheer STUPIDITY SciFi has displayed in cancelling this show. It was at SciFi's insistence that SG-1 wasn't renamed at the beginning of the 9th season (making it the first season of a new show, "Stargate Command"), and now it is the SciFi channel which has pulled the plug? All good things must come to an end, yes, but not when things are still so very, VERY good. Here's hoping MGM partners with a new network! SpikeTV so far seems the best fit, to me... they already show Star Treks TNG and DS9 regularly as well as MacGuyver, why not new episodes of SG-1? (Or Stargate Command, if they want to re-name it).

In all honesty the show has been slacking this season. Don't get me wrong I still never miss an episode. Heck I watch all the re-runs on during the weekdays. I'm still a huge fan but where has the Ori been. We've only seen them in two episodes this season. So I'm anxiously waiting for this weeks episode which they say the Ori is back.

I thought ‘200’ was done beautifully. Lots of funny in-jokes especially at Ben Browder’s expense!
I still watch and am still invested. I like that Ben and Claudia are on the show now. It has breathed new life into the show. How old does RDA have to get before it isn’t believable anymore? I like him so much, and his presence really made the show what it was. But it isn’t what it was anymore. It’s not supposed to be. Times and circumstances change. I personally don’t fear that change. I embrace it. I even embraced it in the X-files. I want to see these talented writers spin out different styles of writing and work with new people and characters. I think the Ori are a big help in re-inventing the show. I am quite curious to see how they are going to get out of this one. And the Arthurian slant is amazing. I love those stories.
I will continue to watch the show, for as long as it is on and even when it's over.

OK I loved the show up to season 8 then when Lt. Colonel Cameron Mitchell was introduced I kinda was still picturing him as John Crichton so that's messing with my head, and no one can replace Jack. I think it's a little better now that they have Claudia Black on. She reminds me a little of Star Trek's Q.

And as for the 200th episode I loved it. I'm glad the they can make fun of them self Jack was back and they had General George Hammond even though he was in puppet form. He was so funny "Make it spin!" Ha Ha Ha!!!

And when they made fun of Farscape HaHa!! Loved Daniel doing Crichton. I almost fell on the floor laughing so hard.

Having watched Stardate sense season 1, i have to say I'm disappointed with the later episodes... I cant say i m surprised with this, sad unfortunate canceling of the show. I do however blame Mitchell for this, they tried to make him like Jack, but he just doesn't compare. But at least Atlantis will still continue. I thought the 200th epsode was OK, i wouldnt call it great, simply because it got obnoctiouse, but it did have its good parts.

I really enjoyed it when Stargate first started showing, so much so I met Michael Shanks at one of the conventions. But so much has happened to the cast, all the comings and goings and the new arrivals. I still find it good to watch but I must admit, you can't beat the original cast who you've been watchin for so many years. The humour isn't as good as it was.

I still watch it. I think they are not living up to the potential that they can. I thought the 200th Episode was done good and nice inside jokes.
