Or would the money be better spent elsewhere? The results seem appalling

I hate this misconception that us Scots apparantly hate the English so much. That's what we think English people do too, with you guys apparantly more keen for us to be under seperate rule than we are but I have friends from England and they say that all this is rubbish. All my friends and I all got really good higher results and all have enough qualifications to get into a good university. As far as I'm aware, the results here are no worse than England, Wales or Ireland. Anyway, do you think that by talking away free education it would improve this? By forcing people out of education? That will really improve things if this is the case.

And anyway, how much revenue does the government get from the oil industry up here, eh? This whole "scots are english hating scroungers" just shows some miseducation on other peoples parts, not ours.

What ever be the results free education is a must as elsewhere. More importantly the causes for bad results must be gone in to analyzed and addressed.

Now, I'm not the biggest fan of the Scots (since so many of them are so vocal about hating us English) but they are still a part of the UK and so should be entitled to free education - if they become totally independent, as I am sure many would like, well, then it would be their lookout and nowt to do with us!

The Scottish parliament voted against tuition fees as they are entitled to do. The fact that the government imposed them in England is something you should campaign against. As for results it's long been recognised that the Scottish education system (which like our legal and housing systems are different to England) is far superior to its equivalent in England.

Maybe it's more constructive to establish why the results are bad!! Everyone in the UK is entitled to free education!

Free education covers the whole of the British Isles and there are four countries in the British Isles.

I'd gladly spend the money on re educating the English on how to behave when abroad. As there behaviour sort of, lets the whole of the UK down.

If you are English then obviously the money that was spent on your education was wasted as you obviously have zero intelligence. You are racist and ignorant.

Judging by all the questions and answers, education ceased throughout the UK a long time ago.

Scotland is part of the UK and the UK has free education for all so why should Scotland be any different.
