I am looking for some type of acoustic/listening device that can pinpoint the leak - perhaps some plumber out there might be aware of where i can this equipment.

The common approach is to run a new line. What's the point of finding the leak if you know you have it. Are you then going to fix the leak only to have the pipe fail again one foot in either direction????
If the line is leaking the entire line is bad.
You will have to hire someone licensed in your community to install a new line from the city main to your entrance.

Leak detection is costly but some companies do it....try Munters.
Havent got their contact details to hand but know 3 people who have used them.

You do not say if you are referring to a water supply or drainage, and either way how do you know there is a leak.
If you are more precise the more help you can get.

forget the leaking linee, and run a new high level line..

. . . wouldn't it be simpler to move your vegetable patch further away from the house, alternatively avoid root vegetables such as carrots, onions, potatoes and of course leeks . . .
