Check those:

Capacity supported: 512 MB, 1 GB, or more?

Type supported: DDR 400, or DDR whatever? This unfortunately can be a bit confusion since a set of terms used parallel to the DDR-xxx speed designation is PC-xxxx rate designation.

Both have to match what is okayed to use, read in the manual for your gateway

First verify how a lot RAM you've. i imagine you should have one million GB because operating vista in something less than it truly is puzzling. Do you shut the classes when you end engaged on them? in case you do then your equipment speed ought to not drop. 50 GB is a large number of area so there is not any situation at that end. if you're have one million GB and also you equipment is showing 512 MB then there's a extreme situation. might want to be one in each and every of your RAM card has blown out.

You have to check the RAM type and the memory frequency. If it is faulty, then there is usually a series of beeps during the boot process.

Some older machines are not designed to work with higher memory capacity.

Depending on your system max you may not be able to upgrade that much memory, or it could be a faulty module, also you might need to install in pairs. With out knowing your system ( machine model and type) can't really be sure what the problem is.
