Good question! Here's some answers: Oil companies contribute huge amounts of money to campaigns for politicians. Many of our government officials hold stock in oil companies (including President Bush and his family holding stock with foreign oil companies)....There have been alternative engines using alternative fuels brought into the patent offices for decades, each one being bought up by the auto companies and the oil companies. If you invented an alternative fuel/engine and were offered several million dollars for the patent, what would you do? It's politics and money, honey, plain and simple.

Because they make too much bloody money that's why. Alberta made so much money last year that they were able to share it with the residents. They had a profit so huge that they gave every citizen of Calgary 400$... that's over 4 million dollars that they just gave away.. do you think the government is going to give up that kind of money???

It's a fact, that in 1970.. a Canadian inventor developed a carbourator that would allow a car to get over 200 miles per gallon. The average car gets about 40.. COULD you imagine what it would be like if your car got 200 MILES PER GALLON???? It would be insane... BUT... the American government bought the patent and the plans to his invention and destroyed it... WHY?? Because all the money they make would go out the window..
