Get a router if you have LAN

If your 'Internet in a box' has an raj45 Ethernet socket on the LAN interface then connect it to a router - then connect the two PCs by wireless or wired Ethernet to the routers. You will then have 'Internet in two boxes'. This is the Asia, most secure and reliable way. Might cost a few quid more but a router and a couple of NI CS should be ~ £35

You could use Internet connection sharing if the PC are running w2k up but you will still require a way to network the two PCs so at minimum wireless/wired NI Cs will be required in each PC.

You will need to buy a router. Connect the broadband into the router, then connect the two computers into the router using 2 ethernet cables (if you don't already have them).

The process takes less than 10 minutes once you have the router. A good router, say LinkSys would cost around $30 at BestBuy.

Wireless router. One of your devices will need wireless network card. i.e. you can hardwire one device via ethernet cable to router and the other with wireless card can be attahced to the network wirelessly. Instructions to do so will come with the router. Some routers come with a USB dongle to plug into the USB of your PC which is in case your device doesn't have a built in wireless card.

connect only between the desktops to the telephone line and connect a crossover cable between the two desktops' Ethernet (community) ports. sign into your information superhighway connection on the 1st pc then run the community Setup Wizard on the two desktops with the 1st pc connecting directly to the internet and the 2d pc connecting in the process the 1st pc - this might set them up right away for networking and information superhighway connection sharing. One be responsive to warning although - dial-up connections will somewhat bathroom down if the two desktops are downloading archives on the same time.

You'll need one router and one USB wireless adapter. Router about £60, adapter £30-. I've just done it using BT equipment bought locally (Argos!)
