Well let me tell you I'm the 21st best player in my city!Chess is a game of strategic skill,it teaches you patience, and the ability to "think ahead".You have to make sure your army(especially your king) is safe while getting the opponent in check-mate.I've had my fare share of losses and I was overwhelmed! In Chess you must consider all your options and play defencively. The center of the board is the most important place on the board.I hope this answers your question!

I'll give a few reasons:

1) There is no luck involved. There's no randomizer. You can expect a grandmaster to win 100% of the games against a novice - unlike (say) poker.
2) Chess is a game of ideas. Basically, if your ideas are better than your opponent's, you win.
3) There are typically around 20 valid chess moves that can be chosen from in a given position - you can do the math and see just how complex the game is after just 3 moves by white and black: 20x20x20x20x20x20.

Chess mirrors reality!

Shouldnt all games be challenging? Dont you hate the games you buy & immediately master? Then they sit on your shelf collecting dust because you never intend on touching them again... Chess is a great game. Personally, i love the challenge of it! One on one, intense, but logical & strategical gameplay. Couldnt be better.....

its is challenging cuz, 2 people have the same equality armies against on another. that person using his brain must outsmart his opponent despite the equality of the war. also, u have to think a few moves ahead, know checkmate and stalemate tactics, know openings and strategy to win.

You can only win by playing a better opponent!

because the result of your actions or inaction is so immediate.
You must stay focused & stay 2-3 moves ahead of your opponent.
And you feel so inept when you lose your kingdom.
