It used to be this site, I suppose. I would log on, answer some questions... post a few questions of my own... and for a little while all my troubles seemed to melt away. It was a getaway that was solitary, but never lonely... a shared solitude, "alone" with other people who were also alone, enjoying their little escape from the world.

Silver Creek Falls State Park is a good place to get away from it all. It is the largest state park in Oregon and has well over ten miles of bike and hiking trails that connect a series of waterfalls. The biggest waterfall is South Falls with a path that winds down to a large pool at the bottom. When you walk down to the falls you walk underneath the cascading water. It is an impressive experience. I don't go there alone now that I have a family. We all four go and ride our bikes. In the summer the upper creek is dammed in the picnic area where kids can go swimming. It is a different experience going with my family than when I was single or first married. It is not the solitary experience it used to be, but It is still the getaway destination it always was.

"Subconscious strange sensation
Unconscious relaxation
What a pleasant nightmare
And I can`t wait to get there again
Every time I close my eyes
There`s another vivid surprise
Another whole life waiting
Chapters unfinished, fading
Closer now - Slowly coming into view
I`ve arrived - Blinding sunshine beaming through
There`s a house I`m drawn into
Familiar settings, nothing new
There`s a pathway leading there
With a haunting chill in the air
There`s room at the top of the stairs
Every night I`m drawn up there
There`s a girl in the mirror
Her face is getting clearer
Young child won`t you tell me why I`m here?
In her eyes -I sense a story never told
Behinde the disguise - There`s something tearing
At her soul..." ~ J. LaBrie ~
My secreet getaway, unfortunately does have a worry or two- but facing them makes this place more vivid. Understanding them makes it more of a reality. Conquering them will make it more perfect!
So much for the "secret"!!!

Occasionally I pack a suitcase, jump in the car and go...destination unknown. Just point the car in a direction and go. My family & friends know I have a cell phone if it's an emergency.
I live near Chicago and I've ended up at Six Flags in Missouri, Starved Rock National Park, Nebraska visiting relatives, Wisconsin Dells. It's my me time. Just driving, listening to fav cd's and getting away from it all.

The woods behind my house. In order to get there, you have to go down a very rough animal path (made by deer) and into a thicket on top of a hill that overlooks a river. My kids can't follow me because they're too young and my husband won't follow me because he's a city boy and doesn't like dirt paths and the thought of crossing an animal.

I wish I had such a place, but I don't unfortunately. I usually pack my worries with me wherever I am. Like the baggage they are, I can't just leave them behind. So even if I found a nice "getaway" just for myself, the worries would keep me company.

Been looking for one. I had a map, but it was upside down, and I ended up in Europe for a few years. I had a 'fort' when I was about 5-6, out in the woods. No girls or grown-ups were ever allowed in it. Does that count?

The lake I grew up on, or deep in the woods with large rocks and boulders to run and jump on.
Both offer tranquility.
I imagine when I die, my soul will go to the lake, though. That is where my mind will travel to during the last moments.

I live by a river, moments away. Sometimes I string my hammock over a small rill that feeds the river, it is peaceful and lush. I cannot hear cars there, they are many kilometers away. It is very peaceful, a good place to gather my thoughts.
