Affordable depends upon where you live now. As a retired senior citizen, I travel the world constantly.
The best deals are always in the off seasons for the country you visit. But you can still get good weather at the beginning and end of the off season. For example, China is very affordable from November to January. Costa Rica is affordable in December. The absolute best deals are the all inclusive tours. For example, you can usually find a 7-9 day tour to China from Los Angeles, airfare and hotels included, for about $1,000. China is perfectly safe and filled with wonders. You would want to make certain the tour goes to Xian, Shanghai, Guilin and then perhaps Beijing.
Costa Rica is also very safe and affordable. You can drink the water, the food is supreme, sights are remarkable, weather is tropical and the country has a 90+% literacy rate.
Europe, Australia, Japan, and Singapore are pricy. Indonesia is not the safest place with the exception of Bali which is a dream place to visit.
Another affordable alternative is a Carribean cruise. Again, book a package deal and stay in the lower berth. You will see 4-5 islands in 7 days, none of which you will ever forget. Food on the ship is excellent and non stop. Ditto with entertainment and activities. You sail at night and are at a port of call during the day. The islands are safer than your own home town. Don't worry about which islands your tour visits as they are all worthy of seeing and each has it's own personality.
Bon Voyage

It depends from where you're travelling. If you're in the USA, I would suggest Canada, especially the Banff, Jasper and Lake Louise areas. It's gorgeous up there with breathtaking views of the Canadian Rockies, lots to do (especially if you golf or ski), and the US dollar is strong there. It's also extremely clean up there. I've been there 3 times for vacation. I love it so much, I'd move there if I didn't love being a US citizen so much. ; )

Happy travels!

This depends where you are located at.

In Europe, I would recommend Turkey or Bulgaria.

These countries both offer affordable good holidays.

Greece, Italy, South of France and Spain are quite expensive during May-September but can offer interesting prices any other time.

nicely, maximum Latin American international locations grant remarkable Spanish Immersion instructions, from Guatemala to Colombia to Peru, and previous. My suggestion is, don't get freaked out over the united statesState Dept. comments. this is honest in information and education, although this isn't any longer worth averting a rustic for. a number of international locations which contain Guatemala, Honduras, Colombia, etc. are seen "overwhelmingly risky in different factors" yet i do no longer believe this. it somewhat is a controversy of arising smart judgements and taking precautions. anyhow, while you're attracted to Peru, i % to propose you bypass. Take precautions as you will possibly in different international locations, evade the obtrusive risky factors, and you will maximum come upon few (if any) issues. I additionally propose Colombia. The media makes it look like a drug-pushed risky empire, however the main remarkable cities (Bogota, Cartagena, Barranquilla, etc.) are all quite secure cities, to no longer point out eye-catching. the topics are often limited in specific rural factors. additionally, this isn't any longer too high priced. Antigua in Guatemala is consistent with danger the main time-commemorated cities in obligatory usa for Spanish immersion, and is likewise a advantageous colonial, yet cutting-edge city. in short, do no longer use the united statesState Dept. comments as a instruction manual on your holiday -- they might want for use to degree precautions only. If Peru hobbies you, bypass forward. Colombia and Guatemala even have good immersion courses, as do maximum different Spanish-conversing international locations.
