You can drink alcohol with antibiotics.
Copy / paste:
"A widespread myth holds that you shouldn't drink alcohol while taking antibiotics, but in fact, drinking doesn't lessen the effects of the drugs. However, alcohol can lower your general energy and delay your recovery so it is best to minimize drinking until you've finished the prescribed course of antibiotic treatment. (Beyond that, chronic liver damage from excessive alcohol consumption can affect the metabolism and toxicity of antibiotics.)"

before embarking on such a course of action, do check with your own doctor, in case there are any complicating personal factors that neither of us are aware of. The effects of certain antibiotics will be reduced when taken in combination with alcohol and as a rule, one should avoid combining alcohol with any medication. The extent to which each dose of any drug reaches its site of action may be termed its availability. Alcohol can influence the effectiveness of a drug by altering its availability. A single drink of alcohol or several drinks over some hours may prevent a drug's metabolism by competing with the drug for the same processing sites within the liver. This type of interaction prolongs the drug's availability, and may increase the risk of side effects from the drug. On the other hand, chronic alcohol abuse may cause an increase in the liver's ability to process the drug, thus decreasing availability and reducing its effects. This effect may persist for several weeks after stopping drinking. To complicate matters further, a drug may affect the way in which alcohol is broken down, increasing the risk of becoming intoxicated.

I think that it tends to make the antibiotic ineffective which means you are weakening/missing the dosage for that day and you wont kill off the infection - instead you may actually make the infection more able to resist the antibiotic. This would be very bad because then you can't use antibiotics to get rid of it.

I know taking anti biotic with the birth control pill will lower the effectiveness of the birth control pill, so you have to use another form of birth control for a month...i don't know why alcohol would effect anti-biotics,call a pharmacy and ask to speak to a pharmacist, he/she will tell you.......

Because alcohol will lessen the power of the antibiotics. They are sensitive, check your prescription bottle for other warnings, such as staying out the sun and driving (yes, some can make you dizzy and lightheaded). Just stay off the booze until the pills are gone, okay?

Aside from possible side effects, alcohol "negates" the effectiveness of antibiotics.

I don't know. I just know that the doctor always reminds me of this, even though I don't drink, when prescribing antibiotics. Must be some toxic reaction? I don't think I want to find out!

it will counter effect the chemicals in your medication...alcohol is a distiller so when it enters the blood it works ,like it does on surface it neutralizes the chemicals in the blood stream too.
