I have a flash disk and I'am using it always, what I do is just plug and unplug the flash disk without using the "safe remove hardware" by windows xp.

One of my friends told me that its unsafe for me to just unplug the flash disk because it will break my flash disk faster, question, is this true?

Because the flash drive sets up temp files and handles with the Windows programs, removing it without doing the "safe removal" can cause the information on the drive to be corrupted. It will also increase wear on the drive. That's why they give you the "safe removal" and warn you when you don't use it.

(Do I pull mine without the safe removal? Too often.)

USB Based Flash drives are definetly plug and play. but then
If there is a process in use or specific activity happening on the Drive it is Risky to unplug it. You may end up loosing your data

By using Safe remove hardware you ensure the Operating system/Hardware is ready for the drive to be removed.

no. not really. the safely remove hardware option is just like asking permission from your computer.

but just to be safe, so that you wont lose files or anything, dont just unplug your flash drive.

On some of them you may lose data if you don't remove safely but I pull them out without doing that on a regular basis with no problem.

as long as it is formatted in FAT 32 it is my understanding it will not case any damage. If it is formatted using NTFS there is a possible loss of unsaved data. Hope this helps, good luck and God Bless.
