A lot of people seem to think that Mel Gibson created a controversy. He didn't create it - he reminded the world of a historical fact. The Jewish people did not like Jesus calling himself the "King of the Jews," and when given the option, they opted to have Jesus crucified and Barrabus released. While it was the Romans who actually killed Jesus, Pilate would not have ordered the crucifiction if it wasn't for the Jewish mob asking him to do so. Pilate symbolically 'washed his hands' of the deed.
I don't believe that this is anti-semetic. The views of the Jewish people 2000 years ago were largely responsible for Jesus' crucifiction. If someone decides that this is reason enough to discriminate against Jews, that's their own fault, not Mel Gibson's. Not to mention the fact that the Jews who were alive 2000 years ago are not alive now. Today's Jews are not responsible for the death of Jesus, so any discrimination against them is unjustified. However, from what I know of Judaism, they still only rely on the OLD testament (all the books of the bible written before Jesus). Mel Gibson's Catholic bible includes the NEW testament, detailing the fact that Jesus' crucifiction was atonement for the sins of all those who accepted his gift of life. (Forgive me, I'm Protestant, but that's close enough for this Christian/Jewish comparison). Basically, Judaism acknowledges the existence of Jesus Christ, but they do not recognize him as the Son of God, who could save them from their sins. (Kind of ironic - they were the ones who facilitated God's ultimate sacrifice of his Son so that we could go to heaven, and then they reject this gift).
Overall, Mel Gibson did not cause anti-semitism. He only read an old book aloud. The Book of Matthew details how the Jews asked to have Jesus crucified. Gibson simply put this into film. I suppose the producers of the film "The Diary of Anne Frank" could be accused of inciting hatred against the German military? Not really.
By the way - in the last paragraph, I am not trying to compare the Jews to German military officials, so please don't take offence; none was intended. Also, I am speaking off the top of my head about the religious ideologies mentioned above. If they are a tad off, please forgive me. I do believe the major elements are correct though.
Ohhh - I was speaking about "The Passion". I just remembered that thing he said when he was drunk. And I have one thing to say to that - THE MAN WAS DRUNK! Our legal system is so crazy that a murder turns into just about nothing if a person was drunk or 'insane' when they killed the person. Yet we can't excuse an anti-semetic comment made by an actor?
What do you think would happen if Ben Stiller or Adam Sandler said "Screw the Christians" if they were pulled over drunk? No one would care anywhere close to as much.

Unless you've been living on the moon, EVERYONE knows about it at this stage. Mel was stopped by a cop for DUI, Mel said: "F*ck the Jews. The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world." Then he asked the officer: "Are you a Jew?"
This was reported around the world and Mel's career is in big trouble.

mel gibson has been arrested for DUI..because he's drunk, he uttered anti-jewish remarks, which i believe is unintentional and pure beer-talking. As of now, reports say that the actor is currently undergoing the treatment that he very much needs.
word of advice: rude people wander here on Yahoo Answers...you just asked a question, and all of a sudden some people bash you, calling you names and providing answers with sarcasm. Just dont mind them!
