A short ton is 2000 lb, or 907.18474kg. A Metric ton is 1000 kg or 2204.6 lb.
We also have the ton (or long ton) which is 2240 lb or 1016.0469 kg.

Interestingly both the short ton and the long ton are defined as 20 hundredweights, so in the imperial system 1 hundredweight = 112lb, but in the US 1 hundredweight = 100lb

Metric ton is bigger. 2000lbs is about 908 kg; conversely a metric ton (not a decagram, that's 10g) is about 2200 lbs.
